To iPod or to Pono - that is the question

iPod

Pono
Apple's iPod is facing a new rival in the digital music market - Pono! Legendary musician legend Neil Young has unveiled a new high-quality digital music player called Pono that will rival Apple's iPod line. Rolling Stone reports that Young created the high-resolution Pono to "confront the compressed audio inferiority that MP3s offer". The musician appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman last night to promote the device, which is a bright yellow prism with a screen and simple controls. According to Young, Pono will play back master files with "the best sound anyone can get". Rolling Stone says that Pono will launch next year as a line of portable music players, backed by an iTunes-style music-download service. There will also be digital-to-analog conversion technology that will "present songs as they first sound during studio recording sessions".

Coldplay Live DVD/CD in November

Rockers Coldplay will release a live DVD and CD on 16 November, titled Live 2012. This will be the band's first concert film and live album in nine years. According to EMI, the DVD documents their acclaimed Mylo Xyloto world tour, which has been seen by more than three million people since it began in June 2011 and wraps up in Australia this November. The film was directed by Paul Dugdale, previously responsible for Adele's Live at the Royal Albert Hall and The Prodigy's Worlds On Fire concert films. Live 2012 includes footage from Coldplay's shows at Paris's Stade de France, Montreal's Bell Centre and the band's triumphant Pyramid Stage headline performance at Glastonbury 2011. Coldplay front man Chris Martin said: 'The Mylo Xyloto tour has been the most fun we've ever had as a band. It's felt very uplifting right from the start; partly because we are proud of the music, the LED wristbands, the pyrotechnics, the lasers and all of that stuff, but mainly because of the amazing audiences that we've been playing for. Over the years, our crowd has become more and more a part of the concert itself. They're loud, diverse, full of soul, and make the songs sound much better than we can on our own. We wanted to try to bottle the incredible feeling that they give us, and hence our concert film.' Watch the trailer for the DVD, HERE!

"Now That's What I Call. . ." the end of music

The most recent Now 61 (SA)
The first ever Now! in South Africa
Confess, somewhere in your CD collection (or if you are our age - vinyl’s and cassettes), you must have a Now That's What I Call Music CD/vinyl/cassette. If not, what's wrong with you?! It's been a music lover's delicacy to get all your greatest radio songs all on one release, but now it seems, the release might come to an end! Digital Spy reports that The Now That's What I Call Music! series may be forced to come to an end later this year due to the takeover of EMI by Universal."Everyone has at least one Now album in their record and CD collection – they're a total guilty pleasure and an essential part of growing up," Top of the Pops magazine editor Peter Hart told The Independent. "But at the same time, these song collections are nearly as an important part of British pop heritage as Top of the Pops itself, and it would be devastating to see them disappear for good." Now! was launched in 1983, and was the first compilation series that worked with the major record labels of the day to include several number ones and big hits on one record. The first Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 1 was released in South Africa in 1984 and featured Queen - "I Want To Break Free", Talk Talk - "Such A Shame" and Duran Duran - "The Reflex". The latest South African edition is Now 61.

Snotkop is 'n super-energievraat

Snoptkop (Credit: Select Musiek)
Dit was my inspirasie.
Ons twee gunstelinge is Ek's Moeilikheid en Hemel By My.
Ek het so baie liefde in my lewe, ek is werklik blessed. Al my fans, my loopbaan, my familie, vriende, dis meer liefde as wat enigeen voor kan vra...
LMFAO- Sorry for party rocking; Niki Minaj-Pound the alarm; Katy Perry – Firework; Kurt Darren – Heidie.
My sang loopbaan hou my egter baie besig.
Mens moet aanhou glo.

Ke$ha had "sex with a ghost"

Ke$ha

Is it time to call the Ghostbusters for singer Ke$ha? Nope, she's fine. She knows how to deal with pestering ghosts – she has  "sex” with them! The American singer said that her new track 'Supernatural' was inspired by an erotic paranormal experience. It's about experiences with the supernatural... but in a sexy way," she told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show. "I had a couple of experiences with the supernatural. I don't know his name! He was a ghost! I'm very open to it." Ke$ha added that her new album Warrior was based around a spiritual quest she went on to improve her music. "The theme of this record is magic. I went on a spirit journey by myself," she said. "No security guard. No managers. I just went around the world and lived on a boat. "I was in Africa rehabilitating baby lions. I went diving with great white sharks, and just went on this crazy spirit quest. "I got hypnotised, and I just really wanted this record to be really positive, really raw, really vulnerable and about the magic of life."

CD REVIEW! Carly Rae Jepsen – Kiss

This year’s breakout pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen releases her eagerly anticipated debut album, entitled, Kiss. The Canadian singer and songwriter wrote or co-wrote songs on the album, collaborating with songwriters and producers Max Martin, Dallas Austin, LMFAO’s Redfoo, Toby Gad, Marianas Trench singer Josh Ramsay and Matthew Koma. “This Kiss,” another surefire pop earworm co-written by Jepsen and produced by LMFAO’s Redfoo and Cherrytree/Interscope artist Matthew Koma, is the next single from the album which Billboard says is “poised to be the Canadian’s singer’s second stuck-in-your-head hit” while Entertainment Weekly raves about the track’s “fun fizzy dance beat.” “These are lyric and song ideas that I have been collecting over the years,” Jepsen says of Kiss. “I can't tell you how lucky I feel to be able to collaborate with some of my dream producers. It has been the most fulfilling experience. The record is pop. It’s inspired by Robyn, The Cars, Madonna, and believe it or not, James Taylor. I can't wait to share it with everyone! Kiss!"

CD REVIEW! Proverb - Fourthwrite

Unless you are based in Kuvukiland, by now you should be aware of one o Africa's talented rapper with thunder rhymes who goes by the name of Proverb. Without going any further, the name, Proverb says it all… After a four year break of not releasing any music, the talented artist is back with a fresh release, Forthwrite. By now, you should by now have noticed that hip-hop has become a hip thing in the local music market and with Proverb’s new release; it can only mean that the talent has some serious songs for music lovers. On this album, the artist does not only walk, talk and dress up like a true hip hop star, his music speaks volume! On Forthwrite, Proverb is not only representing the genre that is no longer just a pigeonhole but rather a tradition - a true hip-hop representative. This album is not deep hardcore hip-hop that you might struggle to follow. The beats and vocals are flying high with easy to listen to rhymes spiced up with soothing musical takes! Taking the art to the next level, Proverb throws proper rhymes, with majesty chorus that compliment the whole storyline. One thing that stands out though the most here is the artist’s great talent – he is able to deliver even in beats that one can be convinced that they might not be easy for him. As the name says, the verbs are into play here!

CD REVIEW! The Killers - Battle Born

Created over the last year and a half by Vegas rockers, Battle Born is the highly anticipated 4th studio album and follow-up to 2008’s hit-spawning album Day & Age. Battle Born, named after the words emblazoned on the Nevada state flag, in addition to sharing its name with the band’s recording studio, is everything Killers fans have waited for since the band announced they would be taking a short hiatus at the start of 2010. The songs came out quickly, starting with the album’s epic lead single “Runaways,” followed by the record’s heart-string-tugging emotional gravity-center “Here With Me,” and the stadia-quaking electro-rock of “Flesh & Bone.” The guitars are heavier, the drums more powerful, the vocals more commanding – all sounding quintessentially Killers while sounding bigger and better than ever before. It is an album that, like its namesake and the band that created it, does not back down from its own strengths.
