HOT! New Erasure CD out in September

Synth pop act Erasure (which by the way I just LOVE!!!) is releasing their new CD in September. The new Erasure album will be called 'The Violet Flame' and will be released on 22 September (that's the UK release date, it will be 19 September in some parts of Europe, and 23 September in the USA). The standard edition of 'The Violet Flame' - Erasure's sixteenth studio album - will feature ten tracks and the first single (more on that a little closer to the time) will be released as a one-track in July when it goes to radio, and then as a full single in September. 'The Violet Flame' was recorded in New York and London and is produced by Richard X. What we've heard so far, we get a club synth sound. I can't wait!

SHOCKER! Thirty Seconds To Mars postpones SA tour

Now this just sux. Rockers Thirty Seconds To Mars has postponed their South African tour. Jared Leto and his band were suppose to rock our shores on 13 and 16 June. It seems a private medical issue is the reason for the change. The band will now only be in South Africa on 21 November in JHB and 23 November in Cape Town. Such a looooong wait..... Eish

REVIEW! Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots

loved Blur and I am a huge fan of the Gorrilaz, so I was a bit sceptical about Damon Albarn's debut solo CD, Everyday Robots. Damon of course is the frontman for Blur and the mastermind and singer for animated super group, Gorrilaz. My scepticism was blown away when I listened to his CD. Rolling Stone Magazine  explained it the best: "All of Albarn's musical obsessions are present on his revealing solo debut: dubby textures á la Gorillaz, Caribbean and African notes, looming classical instrumentation and church choruses that evoke England's past – all wrapped around a singing voice that's become deep and searching where it was once sharp and snarky. The mood on Everyday Robots is even more sparely intimate, and often quite downbeat." Everyday Robots is complex and a personal experience. It's music of the soul that speaks to your inner musical muse. Brilliant!

Michael Jackson outshined by Black Keys

Oh dear....Michael Jackson's latest CD Xscape could not reach the #1 spot in the first week of release in America. The former King Of Pop was dethroned by Black Keys and their new CD, Turn Blue. Music-news.com reports that It was a tight race, closer than any in recent memory, but the Black Keys have succeeded in scoring their first number 1 album and have denied Michael Jackson his eighth. Eish, although I feel sorry for Michael, I can say that I do like the new CD, but Turn Blue is bloody awesome!

U2's Bono, The Edge to work on new musical film

Bono and The Edge from Irish rockers U2 are apparently going to work on a new musical film. Indiewire.com reports that the two will work with director John Carney ('Once') on 'Sing Street'. The movie is based loosely on events from Carney's childhood, and will center on a boy who uses music to help him cope with moving from a posh private school to the inner-city. The Weinstein Company announced that Bono and The Edge are slated to contribute songs and other musical elements to Sing Street.

One Direction band member 'can rap'

It seems that one of the lads from One Direction is not only a good singer, but can rap as well! Digital Spy reports that 1D member Zayn Malik can rap and "spit bars". Music producer Naughty Boy said that he has been recording music with the band and that  "Zayn's actually quite a good rapper. We've been in the studio doing some One Direction stuff and you know, he can spit bars! Of course he can! Big up Zayn and his bars."  It's also reported that the song song includes collaborations with Emeli Sandé and Sam Roman.1D who will be touring South Africa March and April next year so fans of the boys might hear some of the rapping! PS: most of the tickets for the SA shows are apparently sold out!

Rocco De Villiers tokkel ‘n nuwe noot

“Wanneer ek terugdink aan iets of iets sien wat my aangryp, inspireer, of wat my sommer net lekker laat lag, wil ek dit graag in musiek vasvang.” “Ek speel weergawes van ‘Hoe Groot is U’, ‘How Could an Angel Break my Heart’, ‘Every Time You Touch Me’ en ‘When I Fall in Love’ – natuurlik elk met ’n goeie skeut country.”

Die Antwoord's new music video might make you vomit, although the song is a hot thumping track from their new CD, Donker Mag

I L-O-V-E Die Antwoord. There. I've said it. They might make people gasp with their wild antics and brutal-honest lyrics, and even their controversial videos. BUT, and it's a big but, their latest video offering, Pitbull Terrier, taken from their new CD, Donker Mag, might just let you grab for the nearest barf bag. Yes, it's typical Die Antwoord style, and it pushes the boundries of how far you can go with a music video. The last most disturbing (yet much LOVED ) music video I saw was Happiness In Slavery from Nine Inch Nails (NIN). The video was banned from MTV . I think Die Antwoord's Pitbull Terrier just went beyond NIN's antics. Pitbull Terrier sees Ninja with a terrifying prosthetic canine mask, surrounded by kinky cats as he mauls, humps and generally terrorises members of the general public before jumping out of a window, and being brought back to life by spit. Yes, spit. The song is a different direction for the band as it's more of a club vibe than anything else. Donker Mag will be released in June and some of the tracks on the CD include Happy Go Sucky Fucky, Raging Zef Boner, Girl I Want 2 Eat U and Sex.

Johnny Clegg backing vocalist killed

It's a sad day for for South African music with the news that Johnny Clegg's backing vocalist Bongani Masuku was killed during a robbery. Sapa reports that Bongani was killed on Saturday night in Troyeville, Johannesburg. He was parking his car when four men approached him demanding his cellphone and his car keys. A struggle ensued and shots were fired. Bongani has been working with Johnny since 1992. On Johnny's website, the singer says, “We will miss him deeply and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and all who knew him.”

Oh no! It's true - One Direction heading to South Africa

I don't know if I should laugh or cry. After weeks of speculation who is the BIG band heading to South Africa, the news is out: One Direction (1D). Yes, I am not happy. I was hoping for Muse, Rolling Stones or even Madonna. Something try amazing. But alas, its the teen band 1D. The Story of My Life hitmakers will be heading to SA for three stadium shows which will take place on 28 and 29 March 2015 at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg and on 1 April 2015 at the Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, 23 May at 09:00 via Computicket and the Big Concerts website.

EXCLUSIVE! The BIG wait is almost over....

If you are a music fanatic, like myself, then Monday 19 May is the date to remember. South Africa's premiere music concert organisers, Big Concerts, are making a BEEEEEG announcement on that day of an international act that will be touring South Africa. I've heard that it's a artist/band that "will pack stadiums". Who it is, however, remains unknown. On the Facebook page of Big Concerts they posted THIS IMAGE and comments of who it could be are having the Facebook page ablaze. Some speculate it's One Direction (I seriously hope it's not), to Muse and even Sepultura (I doubt if they will even pack stadiums). Other acts on the wish list include Lady Gaga (mmm, hope not) to Katy Perry, AC/DC, Pink, Taylor Swift and even Beyoncé. Like we said, the list is endless. I hope it is an artist who hasn't toured South Africa as yet - someone or a group who will have people queuing for tickets. My wish list includes Madonna (we can only hope), Muse, U2 (they have been here twice), Depeche Mode (doubt if they will pack stadiums) and legendary Paul McCartney just to mention a few. In the meantime, we just have to wait till 19 May....Oh the nerves!

R&B singer Chris Brown gets 131 more days in jail

Things are not looking good for singer Chris Brown. He has been sentenced to serve an additional 131 days in jail, after he confessed to violating his probation. According to Digital Spy, the singer appeared in a Los Angeles court on Friday (9 May) and admitted that he committed a crime in Washington, DC last year. Poor Chris was arrested after being dismissed from a court-ordered rehab sentence and has been in custody since mid-March. It's reported that he faces a misdemeanour assault charge in Washington after a man accused Brown of hitting him outside a hotel in the area. It's also unclear how many days in custody Brown will serve. Chris made the notorious list in 2009  after pleading guilty to beating his then girlfriend, Rihanna.

My 5 HOT tracks for the week you just HAVE to hear!

I'm always keeping my ear to the ground looking out and listening to as much music humanly possible. So, today, I'd like post my 5 HOT songs for the week.

1. Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake: Love Never Felt So Good
Taken from the upcoming Michael Jackson CD, Xscape, this is a brilliant disco song. Yes, you've read it - disco! It reminds me of MJ songs like Don't Stop Til You Get Enough and Can You Feel it. Magic!

2. Steyn de Wet - Maanligwandelaar
Local rising star Steyn de Wet suprises us with a brilliant song and video for his killer hit, Maanligwandelaar. The soft rock song is becoming a fan favourite at his gigs. WWE wrestling fans might enjoy this video as it features some nifty wrestling moments!

3. Coldplay: A Sky Full Of Stars
This sounds somewhat off, but it works. EDM hero Avicci playing piano on a Coldplay album, but hey, it's awesome! A Sky Full Of Stars, taken from the band's new CD Ghost Stories, is a club anthem wrapped in a deliscious Coldplay ballad.

4. Basement Jaxx: Unicorn (working title)
Electro UK outfit Basement Jaxx are one of the best live acts to see. They performed in South Africa a couple of years ago and they were AM-AZING! But lately, they've been a bit on the quiet side, until we heard this! Retro house filled with beats and dance soaked synths. Brilliant!

5. Kasabian: Eez-Eh
Seems like the rockers have gone back to their electronic experimentation that characterized their self-titled debut album way back in 2004 with Eez-Eh. A great tune that will have you humming along in no time.

CD! Winnie Mashaba - The Very Best Of

The Very Best Of” is a double disk which is a testament to the amount of success that Winnie Mashaba has achieved over the years, 13 albums in and Winnie continues to create, inspire and worship. With the Providing her multilingual capabilities, Winnie doesn’t only sing in Sepedi; she continues her practice of honouring other languages to heal broken hearts and offer encouragement to the disillusioned with just her God given talent. She doesn’t forget to give praise to the Almighty throughout.
