Adam Yauch
It's yet another sad day in music. Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch, known as Beastie Boys rapper MCA, has died. GlobalGrind.com, Russell Simmon's website, reports that Yauch died after a long battle with cancer. He was 47. In 2009, Yauch announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy. Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wengdu, and their daughter, Losel. MCA co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, and Ad Rock. The group has won multiple Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. The Beastie Boys' most recent music video was released last year for the song Make Some Noise featuring stars including Rashida Jones, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Amy Poehler, Steve Buscemi, Kirsten Dunst, Zach Galifianakis, Orlando Bloom, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black. The band started off as a hardcore punk group, but soon began experimenting with hip-hop. The band broke big with their first proper album, Licensed to Ill, in 1986, and further albums Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication cemented the band as a true superstar act. Check out the video for their song (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) HERE! Rest in peace, Adam.
