Linkin Park rocking Cape Town on 7 Nov 2012 |
Despite a gale force wind howling around Cape Town Stadium
on Wednesday evening, the 45 000+
Linkin Park fans inside of the stadium couldn’t care
less. All they wanted to see was there rocking heroes: Linkin Park. The fun
part of the whole gale force wind was trying to go outside the stadium to smoke
a cigarette, as smoking is not allowed inside the stadium, so, if you went for
a smoke, you had to smoke two cigarettes because the wind was smoking the other
one for you! Opening act Kongos set the scene for a great night ahead and they
played all of their hits we know here in South Africa. A huge surprise to all
was when Cape Town boytjie Jack Parow joined them on stage for a song – the crown
went off their rockers! Linkin Park took their time to get on stage, but when
the lights went out and the graphics glared up and the band appeared on stage,
all rocking mayhem broke loose. The band ripped through their mega collection
of hits and dished up some old crowd pleasing favourites, too. In a sort of
tribute to MCA of Beastie Boy, the band even included a reworked version of the
Beastie’s song Sabotage into their set list – BRILLIANT! What really had our
blood pumping and adrenalin flowing was the coolest graphics used during the
each song – from the outline of the band members to hyenas that morphed into
digital versions of themselves. What was interesting was that no one in the
stadium knew about the tragedy that unfolded outside when a scaffolding collapsed
in the gale force wind, killing one person and injuring many others. It wasn’t
even mentioned on stage. All in all it was a kick-ass rock show and went beyond
all of our expectations. Joburg, get ready for a serious ass whipping rock
concert on Saturday 10 November!
