Alt. rockers Alice In Chains' Hollow has hit No.
1—again!—this time topping the Active Rock radio chart. That follows five
consecutive weeks during which the song maintained the No. 1 slot on the
Mainstream Rock radio chart. Not bad for an almost-6-minute-long song that was
never intended to be a single. Initially released over as a fan-driven lyric
video, “Hollow” struck a chord with radio programmers, who bypassed traditional
procedure to put the song on air. Rather than wait to receive an official
edited track from the band’s label, stations have been playing “Hollow” in its
entirety (the song is almost twice the length of the average radio single).
Over the course of the weeks that followed, the track’s radio spins increased
exponentially, making it the No. 1 Top Gainer at Active Rock for six
consecutive weeks. Hollow appears on Alice In Chains’ upcoming album, The Devil
Put Dinosaurs Here, due out this May.
