One the eve of Justin Bieber's first ever tour to South
Africa, it's now being alleged that half of his Twitter followers are fake! The
singer was crowned the most-followed person on Twitter earlier this year, but
new data shows that a majority of his followers aren't real accounts. Around
45% of his followers have been classed fake, meaning they are following less
than 50 accounts, have less than one follower and have never tweeted
themselves. The data also considers fake accounts to incessantly tweet buzz
phrases such as "diet", "make money" and "work from
home", reports Socialbakers. It means Bieber's real following is around
17.8 million, compared to his displayed total of 37 million. The data put Lady
GaGa as the true most-followed person on Twitter, with 19m of her 35.9m
followers deemed "real". Katy Perry, Rihanna, Barack Obama and
Britney Spears are among the accounts who have more real people following them,
than fake accounts.
