Spring is in the air; flowers are in bloom, birds in
abundance, and a long heritage weekend is around the corner and best of
all…afro-pop sensation
Mafikizolo are pruned, primed and ready to revive our
souls as they headline the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens’ Sunday, 15
September at 15:00 at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. Pack a picnic
basket, pull out your favourite summer dress, those linen shorts, and a concept
hat for effect, apply lots of sunscreen and bring family and friends for a day
of fun at Joburg’s premier botanical garden. Celebrated duo Mafikizolo will
bring their 60s inspired afro-jazz and contemporary soul beats to what promises
to be a revitaliser of a concert. Having taken over the South African airwaves
with the smash single “Khona” from their Reunited album, Mafikizolo will be
embarking on an extensive African tour and this marks one of the last
opportunities to catch them on home soil before they leave. There’s more -
multi-instrumentalist and Idols finalist Sindi Nene will be the opening act.
With one of the most unique voices in the industry, she is definitely going to
set the tone for an incredible heritage-filled day at the Gardens. Music fans
are encouraged to come early, bring picnic chairs and blankets and spend the
day in natural splendour. There is a restaurant in the gardens plus a
supervised children’s area. Tickets from Computicket.
