The cream of the British music industry will be crowned at
the Brit Awards 2014 which is to be held at the 02 Arena in London on 19
February. Katy Perry and Arctic Monkeys are among the first acts to be
confirmed to perform at the ceremony. Digital Spy reports that the 2014 awards
will see recipients receive a brand new designed award. The new trophy has been
designed by fashion icon and hat designer to the stars Philip Treacy and has a
glossy black finish. "Music has always been my inspiration and I'm
fortunate to have worked with some of the music industry's greatest
artists," Treacy said. "My inspiration for the trophy comes from a
uniquely British genre of music, punk." Brits Chairman Christian
Tattersfield added: "Philip is renowned for his distinctive and memorable
designs so we are thrilled to have him on board for this year. His involvement
guarantees that the 2014 award will continue the tradition of iconic Brits
statues and we are pleased to be able to reward music creativity with something
so unique and special." It was also announced that British comedian James
Corden will host the Brit Awards 2014, but revealed that his fifth time in the
role will be his last.
