He is a legend, a hit making factory and the best medicine the doctor has ordered for the music industry. Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng needs no introduction as his name speaks volumes but his new brand album 2.5 does need some introduction. As usual, Spikiri has his entourage of great musicians on this album. Nobody does collaborations like Spikiri in Mzansi as when the King Don Father steps into the studio everybody wants to be there and witness his magic.
On this Double CD album, Spikiri has called all his soldiers led by Siphiwe “General” Sibisi to come and help him take over the reigns of his musical castle. Spikiri is not the King of Kwaito music; he is the Kwaito music as he the man who sets the trend in the industry.
He is the doctor you must see when your album doesn’t have a hit or when your career is going down.
In America, they have Dr Dre but in South Africa we have Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng. The man is so versatile that there is no genre of musician he cannot produce. He worked with Bricks, Busi Mhlongo, Hugh Masekela, Don Laka to mention just a few. The soft spoken Spikiri says: “I have produced more hits and made stars for our industry but I am still down to earth and humble. I am not a big headed celebrity. I am a child of the industry; I have been here for 25 years and still going strong even today.”
