Jennifer Rush |
80s Superstar
Jennifer Rush is heading for South African
shores with four exclusive performances only in Cape Town and Johannesburg. She
is one of pop music’s most successful vocal artists of the last three decades
and with her phenomenal voice and major hit songs the likes of Power of Love
and Ring of Ice, she will appear on South Africa’s stage for a whirlwind tour.
In fact, this international pop sensation will perform in our country for the
first time ever for two exclusive performances at the Cape Town International
Convention Theatre, 26 and 27 April 2013 at 20:00, and two exclusive
performances in Johannesburg at the Theatre of the Marcellus at Emperors
Palace, 3 and 4 May 2013 at 20:00. The New York-born songstress’ successful
career began in the mid 80’s when her single 25 Lovers was play-listed on
numerous radio stations across Europe and became her first commercial hit.
Accompanied by her next hit single, the hugely recognizable Ring of Ice, her
self-titled debut album, Jennifer Rush, exceeded all expectations and remained
on the German Top 75 for over an almost unprecedented 100 weeks. Then, her most
famous tune of all time, Power of Love, was released and marked the birth of
“the love song of the decade”. The timeless ballad topped the charts from
Scandinavia to South Africa, reached the Top 10 in 16 countries, entered the US
Billboard Charts and was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as “the bestselling
single by a female solo artist in the history of British pop music”. Though
this is her first performance in South Africa, Jennifer has in fact recorded on
our turf when she contributed to an album titled Credo which was made in
Johannesburg with local choirs and was very well-received. She believes that
her debut South African performances are "a dream come true" and to
celebrate this Jennifer will be accompanied by very special guest stars in the
form of the SA Youth Choir in Cape Town and the legendary Drakensberg Boys
Choir in Johannesburg, who will assist the superstar in turning her four
exclusive performances into memorable and epic events. Booking is now open at
Computicket and tickets cost from R450.
