Playlist: tracks you need to hear

What would the world be without new music? Here are some cool tunes, as suggested by our friends at Digital Spy, that is worth a listen.

One Direction: 'Best Song Ever' (out now)
Yes it sounds like most of their other singles, but there's something about 1D's latest track - which heads up their upcoming This Is US movie - that we can't get out of our heads. Our guess is it's something to do with the song's two choruses and the ridiculously addictive "Oh-oh-oh's".

Avril Lavigne: 'Rock N Roll' (release date TBC)
Avril picks up where she left off with her previous track (as always) with another chantalong pop-rock anthem. But while 'Here's To Never Growing Up' never quite hit the spot for us, 'Rock N Roll' sounds like a global smash in waiting.

Ariana Grande: 'Baby I' (out July 23)
After turning heads with the Mariah-isms of her previous hit 'The Way', Ariana Grande continues to fuel comparisons with her new track; a smooth R&B jam that hears her effortlessly whistle through the ad-libs like a true diva.

Joel Baker: 'Further The Feelings' (out now)
Unsigned singer-songwriter Joel Baker has attracted hundreds of thousands of online hits between his unique take on other artists' tracks and his own compositions. With fans such as Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens behind him, things can only get bigger and better.

Example: 'All The Wrong Places' (out September 8)
Continuing his release pattern of debuting new material every year, Example has kick started album number five with a storming electronic number that is destined to soundtrack the crazier section of his live shows.

To Be Frank: 'Nothing' (out now)
The producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist we only know as Frank builds on the buzz generated from his stripped-back debut 'If You Love Her' with 'Nothing'; a moody and intensely dark number whose hypnotic synths pull you in from the off.
