Get pumped for "Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged", when
the teen TV star turned mesmerising performer and media sensation strips down
in a whole new way. “Smilers” will see Cyrus as they’ve never seen her before -
unleashing her unstoppable voice and peeling the electricity from her party
anthems to create more intimate, acoustic jams that show a new side to the
“Wrecking Ball” star. “Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged” premieres on MTV (DStv
Channel 130) at 19:40 on Monday 3 February (encore performances: Wednesday 5
February @ 16:00; Friday 7 February 17:40; Saturday 8 February @ 17:35; and
Sunday 9 February @ 13:30). Surprise guests will join in Miley’s unplugged
party, and who knows, anyone could show up!
And while we may be used to high octane performances involving twerking
and giant teddy bears like Miley’s 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance, or
a giant crying face projections such as her MTV EMA gig, “Miley Cyrus: MTV
Unplugged” will include more pared-down reinventions of her mammoth Bangerz
tracks, such as "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball". Miley,
who was MTV's Best Artist of 2013, joins the roster of legendary
"Unplugged" artists such as Nirvana, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne,
Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton and Adele, who have had MTV Unplugged programmes
dedicated to them since the prestigious series started in 1989. To celebrate
the African premiere of “Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged”, MTV is naming Monday 3
February “Miley Cyrus Day”, and will be showcasing a host of other programming
from the controversial artist including “Miley Cyrus: Can’t Stop Pop” @ 16:25,
documentary “Miley: The Movement” @ 18:00, “MTV Top 5: Miley Cyrus” @ 18:50 and
“21 Candles” @ 19:15.
