1974 was a good year for music. A relatively unknown band
from Sweden called ABBA smashed into the charts in 21 countries with their
Eurovision winning song ‘Waterloo’. Who would have thought that what was traditionally a ‘one hit wonder’ win
would this year turn out a group that would become a global phenomenon? That
they would go on to sell over 380 million albums worldwide? That this would be
the band that Nelson Mandela would declare to be his favourite pop group? And
who, today, would believe that was nearly 40 years ago? 2014 will be another
great year for ABBA. Ongoing plans to mark the
40th anniversary of their Eurovision success include a series of
reissues, releases and events that celebrate the monumental achievements of one
of the most successful groups of all time. This album has been re-issued to
include the original ABBA Gold, More ABBA Gold and an exclusive third CD with
B-sides and Rarities.
