Madonna summoned to Russian court

Madonna
It seems equal rights don't exist in Mother Russia. Madonna has been summoned to a Russian court after promoting homosexuality at a recent concert in St. Petersberg, reports Digital Spy. Anti-gay Russian activists have sent a court summons to the star's New York City home, claiming they suffered "moral damages" following her gig earlier this year. The singer handed out pink bracelets at her 'MDNA' show in St. Petersberg back on August 9 and asked the audience to raise their arms in support of homosexual rights. However, nine plaintiffs want to see Madonna prosecuted for the action as it is illegal to promote homosexuality in St. Petersberg, reports Russia Today. The local law - which was passed in March earlier this year - forbids the propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexualism and transgenderism, and pedophilia to minors. The pro-Kremlin group Trade Union of Russian Citizens wants Madonna to pay out 333 million rubles ($10m/£6.7m) in damages, as they claim the star also stomped on an Orthodox cross. "She insulted believers' feelings, she promoted homosexuality when there were children at the concert and this is forbidden in St Petersburg," union spokesperson Darya Dedova was quoted as saying. "We, the residents of the cultural capital, suffered a colossal moral damage." Seriously, we hope this is a joke....
