Chris Chameleon Live

“Six years after the release of my first Afrikaans album, “Ek Herhaal Jou” – a composition of Ingrid Jonker’s poems, I am still inspired and fascinated by her verse forms. I still experience the same emotional intensity that I felt the first time that I read and fully understood her work.” Chris Chameleon
In 2005, Chris Chameleon intrigued the Afrikaans music community with his first, and now-iconic, Afrikaans album – “Ek Herhaal Jou”.  Chris is back with an album that easily builds on the creative energy that Ingrid Jonker’s lyrics instilled in him. “As Jy Weer Skryf” is an eclectic musical masterpiece.  The compositions are upbeat and heartfelt and there are also songs that fearlessly visit the darker side of Jonker’s work. A rock and children’s song also add to the variety on the album.
“As Jy Weer Skryf” is an in-depth exemplar of Chris’ evolution as an artist over the past six years. The combination of Chris’ unique vocal capabilities with complex instrumentation gives way to a much richer sound. “As Jy Weer Skryf” was recorded in March 2011 at Belville Studios under the guidance of award-winning music producer, Theo Crous.
Even though there are a variety of musical styles on the album, Chris’ distinctive singing manner places his own unmistakable stamp on every song. The flowing nature of his pure falsetto voice is occasionally used (he also does all the backing vocals) and reminds the listener of Chris`s exceptional vocal ability that few others can imitate.
Songs like Kabouterliefde, Tokkelos and Ek Het Gedink are perfect examples of Chris’ highly original approach to Jonker’s popular poems. This album is simply a must for all Chris’ countless fans, devotees of Ingrid Jonker’s poetry and all lovers of quality Afrikaans music.
Chris Chameleon will be performing at the Botanical Gardens in Pretoria this coming Sunday.
