Mary J Blige (Universal)
Lady Gaga and Mary J Blige are among the artists named in the longlist for the 2012 Oscars 'Best Song' category reports Digital Spy. The Born This Way singer has appeared in the list of 39 tracks vying for a nomination place for her 'Gnomeo and Juliet' duet 'Hello Hello' with Elton John, while he is also named for his solo track 'Love Builds a Garden. Mary J Blige is nominated for The Help's 'Living Proof', while Flight of the Conchords member Bret McKenzie is recognised for his songs 'Man or Muppet' and 'Life's a Happy Song' from The Muppets. Robbie Williams and Brad Paisley's duet 'Collision of Worlds' from Cars 2 will also fight it out against will.i.am's 'Hot Wings' from Rio and Zooey Deschanel's 'So Long' from Winnie the Pooh. Other artists named among the 39-strong list include Chris Cornell, Jonsi, Glenn Close and eight-time winner Alan Menken. Only five songs in total can be named as the final nominations in the 'Best Song' category. However, if not a single song receives enough votes from Academy members, there will be no category at all. The voting process begins on 5 January 2012, while the full nominations will be announced live on Tuesday 24 January 2012.
