CD REVIEW! Freshlyground - Hits

It's always great to listen to freshleyground homebrewed music - especially the likes of local super South African Afro-Fusion band Freshlygroud. The band recently released their first ever Hits collection which features a variety of their smash songs - including 'Doo Be Doo', 'I'd Love', 'Pot Belly', 'Fire Is Low', and 'Buttercup' taken from their four studio albums 'Jika Jika' (2003), 'Nomvula' (2006), 'Ma'cheri' (2008), and 'Radio Africa' (2010). Formed in 2002 in Cape Town, the band incorporates elements of traditional South African music (such as kwela and African folk), blues and jazz, as well as features of indie rock, all lead by  Zolani Mahola whose distinctive voice contributes much to the band's unique sound. Although hailing from diverse backgrounds, between them the band's seven members weave a musical magic that is highly infectious and undeniably groovy. An absolute must!
