Pitbull & Ke$ha's song 'Timber' might be in trouble

Ouch! This have got to MEGA hurt. The hit super song 'Timber' by Pitbull and Ke$ha's is apparently facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit over "copyright infringement" reports entertainment site Digital Spy (http://m.digitalspy.com/music/news/a580293/pitbull-keha-song-timber-in-multi-million-dollar-harmonica-lawsuit.html) It is alleged that songwriters Lee Oskar, Keri Oskar and Greg Errico are seeking $3 million in damages after claiming the harmonica riff in 'Timber' is identical to the one in their 1978 song. Mega ouch! Digital Spy further reports that the three claim that Paul Harrington, the harmonica player on 'Timber', was instructed to "emulate" the section on their song 'San Francisco Bay' to give it "an identical texture and sound". To make matters worse, the three also allege that Pitbull's label Sony "might have obtained a license" to use their song from a license holder, but insist they didn't receive permission from the songwriters themselves.

Johnny Clegg to conjure Madiba magic in the gardens this July

Iconic musician Johnny Clegg and indie rockers Shortstraw will headline the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens concert at the Pretoria National Botanical Garden on Sunday, 6 July 2014 as the country celebrates the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. “The 18th of July would have been Tata Madiba’s 96th birthday,” says Old Mutual sponsorship manager Bandile Mngoma. “While we as a nation were grief-stricken by his passing last December, we are privileged to be able to honour his memory through this very special concert. “We all know how much the father of our nation loved music and merry-making, and so we invite Gautengers to join us for a proudly South African celebration of Madiba’s legacy in the beautiful setting of these indigenous gardens.” Clegg, one of South Africa’s most beloved cultural treasures and musical exports, will be performing hot on the heels of a nine-week tour of the USA and Canada. “Le Zulu Blanc” and his band will perform a selection of his solo hits as well as familiar Juluka and Savuka favourites. Headlining the concert alongside Clegg is Johannesburg-based “indie-belle” rock band Shortstraw. These energetic MK Award-winning young musos are sure to get the crowd on its feet and dancing to their catchy, upbeat sounds. Gates open on 6 July at 11:00. Shortstraw will perform at 14:00, followed by Johnny Clegg at 15:00. Buy your tickets in advance for R150 through the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens Facebook page or at the gardens. Tickets bought on the day of the concert cost R170.

Game Of Thrones actor star in 2nd music video

Game Of Thrones actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed in the series) has starred in a second music video for the band The Luka State. Digital Spy reports that he recently featured in the band's video for their single '30 Minute Break'. He has continued his collaboration with the Cheshire band by appearing in their latest video 'Rain'. The video tackles difficult issues including isolation, depression and suicide. The actor also starred in the movies Love Actually and Nanny McPhee. Digital Spy reports that the actor said of The Luka State: "I really like the way their videos are thought-provoking and at times a little difficult to watch. It's exciting to be a part of a music project that tries to do things a little differently. I think my role in 'Rain', although only brief, serves to remind people that difficult issues can't just be swept under the carpet."

REVIEW! Deadmau5 - While(1<2)

Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) is back in the EDM seat with his latest double disc release, While(1<2). I was quite surprised to find out it's a double CD, and although I gave it a couple of listens there were actually only a couple of tracks that grabbed me by the balls. Don't get me wrong, I dig Deadmau5 and saw his show in Cape Town, but his latest release is genre hopping release. Yes, you do have the Deadmau5 signature sound, but he is tapping into too many genres. I was very surprised to hear the god of industrial rock Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails on the CD. That song is actually kick-ass. I'm not regretting yhe fact that I bought the CD, it's just I wanted more. EDM is an evolving genre and maybe Joel did it right with this CD, but I'm just having a hard time getting into it. Just my honest opinion....

RJ Benjamin banging the drum with new song and using social media for releasing new song

Can Skylark, Proverb, Ziyon make up what is set to become yet another sure hit for RJ Benjamin and his musical peers. Each connected with Benjamin in person, via social media and websites, all powered by sheer talent. “I first ‘met’ Can on Twitter,” Benjamin recalls. “She asked about a possible collab, so I checked out her songs on her website. I liked her sound. It reminded me of my earlier work, where I was incorporating a lot of funk and soul elements.” “So High” is the result of their union, the first of three tracks about to blow up on radio. Regional radio has already started the ripple, with national and web radio sure to ride the wave of this latest RJ Benjamin three-way aural merger. In between releasing 2013’s Inside album (after a three-year hiatus), RJ Benjamin’s last 12 months have been filled with loads of musical mentoring. First as the musical director for Mzansi Magic’s Clash Of The Choirs’ inaugural season, and again for the ninth season of Idols South Africa. “I’ve always been passionate about unearthing SA talent,” he says, “and these collaborations with Can, Proverb and Ziyon, like all of my other projects, seemed like a great opportunity to feed and be fed. My inspiration for “So High” was similar to Can’s style, and so I wrote something happy and uplifting. I used my own current state of mind and life as inspiration for the lyrics. I'm in a good place, in love and loving every minute of it.” Plugged in and powering a multitude of pop originality, Benjamin’s other current distraction includes a duet, “Only Ever Loved You”, with former Liquideep member Ziyon. Clash Of The Choirs Season Two is also keeping him in mentoring mode, but as for his Ziyon recording, RJ fans can look forward to it forming part of a bigger three-track mini-album or iTunes EP. “It will feature “So High”, with balance made up of “All Falls Down”, alongside Proverb, and “Only Ever Loved You”. It will be out at the end of June, with a full album planned before he begins work on Idols tenth season. “I’ve always been a huge RJ Benjamin fan,” Can says of her respect for her co-writer and producer. “I always thought that out of all the South African music I’d ever been exposed to, his material had the most integrity and sound quality I wanted to share in.” Staying true the beauty and soul of Can’s style and talent, RJ’s magic runs throughout “So High” and its more than three minutes of love, happiness and feel-good beat euphoria.

REVIEW! Tiësto - A Town Called Paradise

For Tiësto making music is about giving. The Grammy Award-nominated electronic dance music icon offers up his greatest gift yet in the form of his fifth full-length album and career first for a major label, A Town Called Paradise. That's saying a lot considering his track record too… "The record has two sides to it," he reveals. "Part of me is always trying to innovate, and that's half of the album. The other half of me is always a crowd pleaser. I love giving the audience what it wants. I put all of the experiences I've had over the past twenty years into this. This is my sound. Of course, it's dance, but it's melodic. There are strains of indie rock, yet it's very happy. These songs will make you smile. They'll make you dance. They'll make you want to go out. It's everything a Tiësto album should be." That's easy to hear on the collection's shimmering first single "Red Lights". Written with Rami Yacoub and Carl Falk and featuring vocals by Michel Zitron, the track shines with Tiësto's instantly recognizable production and an unforgettable hook, effortlessly straddling the lines between house, electro, and pop.

HOT TUNE! Prince - The Breakdown

Ladies and gentleman, his Purple Highness, Prince, is back with  super hot song, The Breakdown. And it's HOT! It seems that Prince has gone back to his 80s roots with this song. The Breakdown is a slow, stately ballad, with lush, layered vocal harmonies, and little guitar, Prince's voice ascending into a falsetto holler. The music icon dropped the new tune just short of midnight on Friday, the same day he announced he's working on a new studio album.

Beyoncé gives Jay-Z a rap over the knuckles

It seems like Beyoncé had a enough of her hubby Jay Z's party days. Music-News.com reports that  Beyonce Knowles has apparently enforced a party ban on Jay Z. This comes after footage showing Beyonce's younger sister Solange attacking Jay in an elevator was leaked. The aftermath of the video has seen Jay accused of cheating on his wife of six years, all of which Jay's denied. In a move to prevent any more embarrassing mishaps, Beyoncé has reportedly told Jay to quit his partying ways, including nights out at his own New York club 40/40.  "The infamous lift video is something Bey would rather forget. To get her own back for all the rumours, which Jay has denied, she's making sure he avoids situations that could cause similar embarrassment," a source told British magazine Now.

REVIEW! Coldplay - Ghost Stories

Honestly, I was very sceptical about this Coldplay CD. The bits and pieces I heard online before the official release just did not made me go 'awesome'. The sixth full-length studio release for the alternative rock band led by Chris Martin was influenced in part by Martin's relationship with Gwyneth Paltrow. So I was expecting boring feel-so-sorry-for-myself lyrics. I was almost wrong. The CD is an OK piece of work that only peaked my interest from the 3rd time listening to it. Pitchfork.com said, "[The CD] is a subdued work that finds Martin and his band crisply moping through mid-tempo soundscapes and fuzzy electronic touches that have the visceral impact of a down comforter tumbling down a flight of stairs." It isn’t worth rushing out to buy. If you haven’t listened to Coldplay much, go back to their first two albums, Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head before judging them on Ghost Stories. If you are not that a big fan of the band but still on occasion listen to their music, give this one a skip. It won't convince you to like them now. Sorry Chris, better luck next time.

REVIEW! Die Antwoord - Donker Mag

As I said before, I LOVE Die Antwoord and I was pretty excited when I got to listen to their new CD, Donker Mag. All I can say is WOW! They are still as controversial as ever, pushing the envelope of their spitting crude lyrics wrapped up in funky, electro, dance tunes with a nudge of R&B. For real! Donker Mag does not surprises with titles like “Sex,” “Happy Go Sucky Fucky” and “Dont Fuk Me.” Says The Harvard Crimson, "The CD is playful, shameless, and grandiose with a burst of careful meditation from time to time." So yes, this CD is just FUCKING awesome! (PS: This CD is not for the faint hearted!)
