Shimmy Beach Club, South Africa's premier beach club and restaurant, is pleased to announce that Goldfish will perform one last ‘Submerged Sundays’ concert before the famous duo jet off to Europe for their summer season line-up. After a sell-out residency at Shimmy, Goldfish are set to wow their fans in true Submerged Sundays fashion with a summer finale line-up that includes 5fm’s Roger Goode and Poppy Ntshongwana, as well as Dean Fuel and Jet. Goldfish is made up of two multi-instrumentalists who are re-inventing the concept of a DJ and taking live performance to a new level. Their genre-defying live mix of saxophone, double bass, keyboards and pounding house beats has touched a nerve with audiences across the world, from impromptu jams at a tiny beach club, to selling out Amsterdam’s Heineken Music Hall and curating their own live electronic festival in Holland. Based in Cape Town, the boys haven’t stopped there, cracking a top 10 on the US iTunes Dance chart, mixing the cover mount CD for DJ Mag, a 5 year residency at Pacha Ibiza, and DJ’s like Fedde le Grand knocking at their door to remix their tracks. Goldfish will return to Shimmy Beach Club for another season of exclusive Sunday shows during Summer 2015/16. Details will be announced on the Shimmy website and App. Book at NuTickets for the Summer Finale of ‘Goldfish Submerged Sundays’.

SA’s Queen of rock is strongest when she just tells it as it is. Karen Zoid is known for her clever and penetrating lyrics; her distinctive voice and ability to write brave and delicately rendered songs.
Thematically the new album comments on the “destructive seduction” of the information overload that we have to deal with in the modern world. Karen comments: “Times are hard. But that doesn’t mean that we must withdraw. We need to find our way back to ourselves. We must be able to be quiet before knowing what to say and what to do. And from there go wholeheartedly for what we want in life.”
“Drown Out The Noise” was written and recorded over a period of a year. It is her first English album in seven years and Karen absolutely loved being back in studio with friend and producer Theo Crous.
Every track adheres to robust song writing principles. The tone switches dramatically between classic rock arrangements, powerful ballads and deeply moving compositions. Karen says that she wanted to make a full bellied album with bells and whistles and grand arrangements. She comments that it was important for her to make an effort to write and record a proper album. “It will be sad if everyone just records singles. It doesn`t allow for a complete story to take shape.”
The songs on the album touch nerve and heart. The gutsy emotion and pop-defying delivery offers an album that sounds like nothing in the world right now. “Justice Justice” was written in memory of Anene Booysen. Zoid was deeply disturbed by Anene`s story. She comments “Crime in this country is a topic we all are concerned about. The rape statistics in our country are exceedingly high. It troubles me greatly. We need justice.”
“Troublemaker” is a special Madiba song, co-written and recorded with Zolani Mahola, lead singer from Freshlyground. Zoid says that they have been working together on projects for a long time, but this is the first time that they have written a song together. It was a special time in studio, as well as very emotional for them, because Madiba died during the week that they were busy creating this song. Zoid says that she loves the 100 year old chant that Zolani worked into the end of the song. It is a traditional Xhosa chant that calls for the revealing of the next Troublemaker/Peacemaker.
Karen also collaborated with Francois van Coke on the track “Smile.” Their Afrikaans single “Toe Vind Ek Jou” that is featured on Van Coke`s solo album has had more than 250 000 views on Youtube, in less than a week and is was the first South African song to debut at no.1 on the Kia Top 40 SA with iTunes chart on KFM and Highveld Stereo.
“We`re all gonna die Someday.” is a dark tongue in the cheek song. This title ties in with the overall theme of the album. Karen hopes that the album will encourage people to go back to find the spark within, “that still place from where we can all dream big again.” She adds: “Stop being so hooked in by the noise of the world. We are fuelling the fire of mass hysteria. You have one life. Live it from your gut, not social media.”
“Drown out the Noise” is a lovely jolt of energy-punching tunes that will fill you with exhilaration. A refreshing album that will stand out because of Karen`s unapologetic, raw take on things. A must have for your music collection.

What a bummer. Metallica's Kirk Hammett told The Jasta Show how he lost about 250 guitar riffs, and that thanks to his iPhone gone missing. “I put riffs on my iPhone, but something very unfortunate happened to me about six months ago. I lost my iPhone containing 250 musical ideas. And I was crushed. It didn’t get backed up. I can only remember, like, eight of the ideas. So I just chalked it down to maybe it just wasn’t meant to be and I’ll just move forward with it,” Kirk told Jamey Jasta. It is reported that in 2012, Kirk said that he’d churned out 400 riffs in preparation for the metal group’s 10th album. The good news is that the new Metallica album is slowly but surely taking shape. So remember kids to always back-the-fuck-up your phone!
Now this is fun. You soon can be high as a kite with the legendary American singer-songwriter, musician, guitarist, author, poet, actor, and activist Willie Nelson. It's reported the 81-year-old Willie is jumping into the movement to commercialise marijuana. He is planning to roll out his own brand of cannabis that he intends to make "the best on the market." Willie's Reserve will be grown and sold in Colorado and Washington. A release explaining Willie's Reserve says it reflects Willie's appreciation for "the many varieties and range of the plant's qualities." It went on to say, "is an extension of my passion and appreciation for the many varieties and range of the plant's qualities. Some of the best master growers in America will collaborate...to define quality standards so that fans can expect clean and consistent products." Willie is a long-time supporter of marijuana for personal use and has spoken of its benefits for hemp production. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!
Three-time Grammy Award®-winner and multi-platinum selling artist Ludacris made year-end headlines when he wed his long-time love Eudoxie. Now, he’s kicking off 2015 in grand style, storming the charts with his newest single, “Good Lovin’” featuring Miguel. “Good Lovin,” as part of his December 6-song EP release BURNING BRIDGES, anticipation now centres on the release of Luda’s 8th studio album, LUDAVERSAL, arriving LUDAVERSAL is the much anticipated follow-up to Luda’s release Battle Of The Sexes. Three days after the release of LUDAVERSAL, Ludacris –real name Chris Bridges– returns to the big screen in Furious 7. This marks Luda’s fourth turn as Tej Parker in the wildly popular The Fast and the Furious action film series, which has grossed over $2.3 billion worldwide to date, making it the most successful franchise in Universal Pictures history. Cee-Lo, “In My Life” feat. John Legend, and “Burning Bridges” feat. Jason Aldean.

The 10 track album is this singer’s testimony as she pours her heart out, with each song taking the listener on a spiritual journey. Mariah now returns to Sony Music where her hitmaking career began, with a history-making string of 18 Hot 100 #1 hits that made her the best-selling female artist of all time.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be back together again with Mariah,” said Mr. Reid. “There is really no one who comes close to Mariah as both a songwriter and a singer, and as the world knows, her vocal range is legendary and truly incomparable. Her music is indelibly etched into our culture, and she’s shattered so many chart records that she’s now firmly entrenched in the history books. With a fierce and loyal fan base that covers every corner of the globe, I have no doubt Mariah will do it again."

Included as the final track on the collection is Mariah’s breath taking new single, “Infinity” (co-written and produced by Mariah).
Monday, April 27th marks the global premiere of both new single “Infinity” and the stunning Brett Ratner-lensed accompanying video. That same day, Mariah has a spectacular kick-off event planned in Las Vegas to celebrate her upcoming Caesars Palace Vegas Residency.

Saturday, 7 March 2014 saw the launch of Sprite Uncontainable’s talent search, which is making its way around the country, in search of South Africa’s most refreshing Hip-Hop talent in emceeing, graffiti and dance. Assisting Sprite in finding these talents are judges Reason, an acclaimed rapper; celebrated graffiti artists Mars; and Simba, who has been instrumental in the advancement of dance as an element of hip hop as a dance genre in South Africa. “I believe in the saying that anyone who breaks through a ceiling should send the elevator back down for the next person. As one of the judges of Sprite Uncontainable Refreshing Like That, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help find South Africa’s next unsigned talents,” says Reason. He started his career in Hip-Hop cyphers and rap battles which gained him the recognition from DJ Fresh who invited him to record jingles for his breakfast show. Reason has gone on to release a number of hit singles and has been nominated for multiple awards. “Having taken part in many competitions myself, I believe that it is important to involve yourself in the things that you love. I am excited to be part of Sprite Uncontainable as it is aligned to my passion of graffiti,” says Mars. He has been lauded for his technical skill and creativity when it comes to his diverse artwork. His graffiti has been featured in cities such as Paris, London and Maputo and has won him awards such as Best Graffiti at the South African Hip-Hop Awards. Simba started dancing in high school and managed to use his passion to further advance dance in South Africa through the Masters of Rhythm dance competition and TV show which he was the architect of. He has worked with international acts such as Missy Elliot and Akon and uses his experiences to inspire and advise the youth who aspire to be like him. “I am excited to re-join the search for new talent,” says Simba. “I will particularly be looking at skills and overall ability to entertain the audience,” he concludes.
The wait is over… 2015 is FRANCOIS VAN COKE’s year. He takes a new path with his self-titled debut solo album… doing things his way. He has screamed enough. He lays himself open on probably one of the most exciting releases of 2015. Francois van Coke’s album is out NOW and available on iTunes, in shops and at his shows. The iconic frontman of legendary groups Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel launched his solo career with the successful release of his first single, Moontlik Nooit from his website on the 20th of February. The next single is the heartbreakingly beautiful ballad, Toe Vind Ek Jou featuring Karen Zoid. Toe Vind Ek Jou is one of the most beautiful Afrikaans ballads of 2015. Francois and Karen became best friends quickly and easily in the past year. She inspired Francois to make himself vulnerable with this song. The viewer will feel it, hear it and see it – the perfect harmony. This album celebrates a new chapter in Francois van Coke’s personal life and career. It is a rock based album, imbued with folk, country, alternative, industrial and even pop influences. The songs as a whole are not as heavy as the bands (Fokofpolisiekar & Van Coke Kartel) Francois plays in.
Album track list and Francois’ song descriptions: Francois teamed-up with old and new friends to bring this album to life. They are Jedd Kossew, Karen Zoid, Laudo Liebenberg, Hunter Kennedy and Arno Carstens.
Behoort aan niemand nie
The opening track kicks off with spooky vocals and distorted bass guitar. The verse moves in rhythm to rock ‘n roll of the 80’s. The chorus ‘Staan terug vir niemand nie, behoort aan niemand nie’ (‘Stand back for no one, belong to no one’) is a mission statement for the future exposed with straightforward acoustic guitar and piano. Jedd Kossew plays a fantastic melodic solo, underscored with industrial and electronic sounds close to the end.
Dark electronic rock accompanied by an unforgettable guitar line and basic beat. Jedd’s falsetto backing vocals gives the song a pop feel for this dark and cynical lamentation.
Laudo Liebenberg boards the ship for this three-minute-thirty-second sail on the ocean. Francois, Laudo and Jedd’s harmonic vocals accompanied by soulful rhythm and guitar tones is reminiscent of an island holiday. Cheerful music positioned against dark lyrics. ‘Ek is hierdie skip wat sink. Anker onderkant.’ (‘I’m this ship that sinks. Anchor at the bottom.’)
It’s a dark, optimistic mission statement about getting older, accompanied with a strong pop sound. The bridge moves to a fantasy world with beautiful guitar strumming, but returns with the chorus - ‘Ek voel ‘n f*k wat die mense sê.’ (‘I feel a f**k about what people say.’)
Waar daar ‘n wil is…
It’s the heaviest song on the album. A technical distorted bass intro that leads to a primitive drum rhythm, coloured-in by atmospheric guitar sounds. A sudden break changes the pace to hard rock and metal, momentarily reminiscent of Van Coke Kartel. A sweeping chorus with a massive drum invasion by Sheldon Yoko drives the point home - ‘Waar daar ‘n wil is, is daar ‘n weg’ (‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way’). Don’t miss the end of the song.
By die Huis
The longest track on the album starts with a shuffle beat and beautiful guitar work, violin sounds and a driving bass. Francois whispers his discontent about how bad it feels to lay awake in South Africa. A massive twist leads to a loud and heavy ending.
Things take a lighter turn on this folk rock number. Acoustic guitars weaved with tight and hooky guitar lines drive this melancholic party folk song.
Ek Weet Nie
Arno Carstens sings in his best Afrikaans on this song since Sprinbok Nude Girls’ ‘Pappa, ek wil ‘n poster word.’ A soft piece builds up to an immense chorus with Francois and Arno’s floating vocals. Another ode to uncertainty. ‘Ek raak ouer, maar die opslossing kom nog nie.’ (‘I’m getting older, but I still don’t have the answers.’)
Waarheid, Weg en Lewe
A hurried rock song reminiscent of the 70’s. Harmonic singing underlined with pulsing guitar rhythms. Jedd performs one of the biggest solos on the album.
Die Heuwels Fantasties contributes to this grunge pop somber number. Things also get a bit funky (for the first and only time) here. Hunter Kennedy and Pierre Greeff lend their vocals to this song.
Toe vind ek jou
A country-ish ballad with Karen Zoid. The most beautiful song on the album.
Maanskyn & Rose
Johnny de Ridder’s piano encircles atmospheric sounds and light rhythms. Moonshine and roses from here on out.

Fresh from Shania Twain's two-year residency in Las Vegas, which wrapped in December, the country-pop superstar is set to release Shania: Still the One Live From Vegas!
"This show has been my labour of love for over three years," Twain said in a statement. "It has meant so much to me and was such a privilege to live out my visions on that stage, and it is so exciting to now get to share the whole experience with the fans all over the world!"
Twain, who has sold in excess of 75 million albums worldwide (with 34.5 million in U.S. sales), remains the top-selling female country artist of all time.
With bands like the War on Drugs refracting Dire Straits' honeyed 1980s guitar sound, it's surprising that Mark Knopfler hasn't rebooted his old band lately. Instead, he's been unpacking his influences on modest, multifaceted rock LPs like this one. Opening on a vamp recalling Dave Brubeck's "Take Five," then veering into Celtic folk, "Laughs and Jokes and Drinks and Smokes" sets the tone for this burnished set about days past. "Basil" nods to Knopfler's youth in Northumbria; "Skydiver" echoes Seventies Grateful Dead. Knopfler's quicksilver guitar is understated, and he delivers stories of stoic ache like an old watchmaker on a pub stool — quietly riveting.
Bassist/composer Marcus Miller has signed to Universal Jazz & Classics in France and will make his debut for Blue Note Records next month with the release of his new album Afrodeezia, which came out on March 16 in Europe and March 17 in the U.S. The album’s lead single “Hylife” is available across all digital retailers and streaming services.
Afrodeezia—which was inspired by Miller’s role as a UNESCO Artist For Peace and spokesperson for the organization’s Slave Route Project—was recorded in locations around the world including Morocco, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, New Orleans and Los Angeles, and features a wide range of guests including rapper Chuck D., vocalist Lalah Hathaway, keyboardist Robert Glasper, trumpeters Etienne Charles and Ambrose Akinmusire, guitarists Keb’ Mo’ and Wah Wah Watson, bassist/producer Mocean Worker, and cellist Ben Hong, as well as musicians from Africa, South America and the Caribbean. Miller’s core band includes saxophonist Alex Han, trumpeter Lee Hogans, pianist Brett Williams, guitarist Adam Agati, and drummer Louis Cato.
"It was after visiting the House of Slaves on Gorée Island that I composed “Gorée,” explains Miller, referring to the powerful track featured on his previous album Renaissance. “Onstage I felt the need to say what I had been feeling in Senegal. I wanted people to understand that this tune spoke not only of the slave tragedy but, through the music especially, that these people who suddenly found themselves at the bottom of a ship's hold had discovered a way to survive, and were able in time to transform their distress into joy. Shortly after my trip to Gorée, UNESCO named me an Artist for Peace, and made me the spokesperson for the Slave Route Project. That was when I started thinking about Afrodeezia."

Continuing to climb the charts, the debut single “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)” has exploded into the Top 5 at alternative radio where it currently sits at #3.
Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf) reached #1 on Tuks FM Top 30 in March and also charted on Kovsie Fm and PUK fm. The single is also playlisted on various South African radio stations including 5fm, RMR, MFM, Mix fm and more.
Following a whirlwind two-year world tour in support of Megalithic Symphony, AWOLNATION withdrew into the depths of the California coastline to construct the sophomore effort. A culmination of the years following the release of the debut album, the 14-track Run, was written, performed and produced entirely by musical architect Aaron Bruno. The end result is a finely tuned musical masterwork that is at times, and all at once, sprawling, atmospheric, exuberant, earnest and refined with moments of a signature aggressive unease. CraveOnline stated, “these sounds are designed to stick in your head, and they succeed in their purpose, gorgeously,” with Alternative Press calling Run “the first AWOLNATION album of the rest of your life.”
Released in 2011, the band’s gold-certified debut album Megalithic Symphony was an alternative music revelation that became an astonishing success resonating with fans around the world. The album holds a number of long-running Billboard chart positions including 146 weeks on the Independent Albums chart, 111 weeks on the Billboard Top 200, 105 weeks on the Top Rock Albums chart and has topped the Heatseekers Albums chart several times over. Their hit single “Sail,” a redefining global anthem, is certified 6X Platinum in the U.S., and is the second longest charting song in the Billboard Hot 100's 55-year history amassing hundreds of millions of video views and streaming plays online while charting around the world. Following the success of “Sail,” the band would go on to have two more Top 10 charting alternative singles, “Not Your Fault” and “Kill Your Heroes,” having sold over a million downloads combined. Since the release of their debut, AWOLNATION has performed countless shows to millions of fans across the globe.

“Swedish songbird” Tove Lo (as she was described by Nylon magazine) is rapidly winning over audiences. “The sparkly, synth-ridden track,” Nylon said of “Habits (Stay High),” “is an irresistible dance floor number with a decidedly dark backbone – using substances to deal with heartbreak – and according to the singer, creating a slick pop jam like this one is her way of dealing with relationship obstacles. Of “Not On Drugs,” Pitchfork says "Now…she's back on her feet and reaching for the stars—she's not on drugs, she's just in love, and she has the post-Icona Pop beat drop to prove it.”
‘For me it's easier to write and sing songs about my feelings than talking them out with people,’ she explained. ‘It's my way of working through things.’
26-year old Tove Lo is a graduate of Stockholm’s prestigious and rigorous Rytmus Music school, a springboard for young Swedish artists like Robyn, Erik Hassle, and Amanda Mair. As a member of Max Martin and Shellback’s writing collective, Tove earned her first cuts with her compositions “We Got the World” (Icona Pop) and “Something New” (Girls Aloud). In addition to self-professed supporters Ellie Goulding, Lorde and Icona Pop, Tove Lo’s online admirers also include Adam Lambert, Charli XCX, Major Lazer, Alesso, and others.
Amongst James Bay's Chaos And The Calm twelve tracks, the record features the single "Hold Back the River". Driven by his soulful delivery, captivating storytelling, and inimitable spirit, he's poised to capture the attention of listeners everywhere this year.
2015 is already shaping up to be a breakout year for the internationally acclaimed UK singer and songwriter. Less than a month ago, he hit the stage at Late Night with Seth Meyers for his first-ever US television performance, and has been profiled by tastemakers such as Spotify, Buzzfeed, Entertainment Weekly, BlackBook, Mashable, The Guardian and Q Magazines as an "Artist to Watch."
James Bay is the WINNER of the BRITs Critics Choice Award, an honour previously won by none other than Adele, Florence + the Machine, Sam Smith, Jessie J, and many other superstars. He also ranked #2 on the BBC 1 Sound of 2015 poll.
BAY hails from the tiny town of Hitchin, but he cut his teeth performing at London's iconic venues including opening for The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park, opening for two sold out tours with Kodaline, John Newman and Tom Odell. It was at one of these very performances that a fan filmed his set and shared the video on YouTube. The video quickly caught the attention of Republic Records who ended up flying BAY to New York and signing him on the spot. Last fall he was selected to perform at the Burberry's Prosum Spring/Summer Fashion Show and the iTunes Music Festival. BAY is now set to kick off tour dates in Europe and Australia.
