Cher tells it like it is...

Cher is probably the ultimate diva - in a good way. The singer is back with her first album in over a decade and her new song Woman's World which hit No 1 on Billboard's Dance Club songs chart in August. She told Billboard.co. that her new CD, Closer To The Truth offers up various tunes - from cinematic and super dramatic. "The first half of the album are the songs that you play before you're going out to dance," Cher says, "and the second [half] are the ones that you play after you've come home." One of the tracks, Dressed To Kill is a cover of a 2009 song by British singer Preston. "It's one of my favorites just because it's so over-the-top." It's just more fun," she continues, "You know, it's just very gay! I like that." Pink co-wrote two of the songs the new CD. Cher said that she liked Pink attitude, "what-you-see-is-what-you-get attitude. "I admire anybody for standing up for what they believe - man or woman, I don't care. Having beliefs - especially if other people don't agree with you -- it's difficult in this day and age. Watch the video of the interview on Billboard.com

The Killers debuts new video - 'Shot At The Night'

The Killers
Vegas rockers The Killers have unveiled their new music video online. The band will release 'Shot At The Night' on November 4 as the lead single from their first retrospective album Direct Hits. EW reports that the video begins with scenes of daily drudgery as a hotel maid (played by Bella Heathcote, Dark Shadows) makes beds and vacuums casino carpets. Driving to work, she’s so transfixed by the lights of the Las Vegas Strip, she nearly hits a cute pedestrian (Max Minghella, Ides of March). Interspersed are reflected profile shots of Brandon Flowers singing from a high rise hotel. Cute pedestrian is also a guest at her workplace, so naturally they run into each other again. Minghella and friends convince her to neglect her maid duties and come out with them. They give her a makeover, they frolic, they ride scooters, and just like any Las Vegas love story, it ends up in Vegas style.

U2 waiting for Gods approval on new album

If you think there is a new U2 album on its way anytime soon, think again. U2 lead singer Bono told David Letterman that "God's is the band's manager." Music-news reports that Bono was a guest of the Late Show With David Letterman this week and explained why there has not been a new U2 record since 'No Line On The Horizon' in 2009. "You know Quincy Jones said to me 'Bono, you've got to wait for God to walk through the room' and I said 'Q, why is God so unreliable in the music department". And he said "Just to teach you to wait', so we are waiting," Bono said. He explained that there was no rush for the next album. "We have a deal with our audience, they give us a great life and they expect us to be great and that's tricky, "Bono said. "As you get better you get very good and very good is kind of the enemy of great. You can mistake it for great. People don't get excited about us being very good. Who needs a new U2 album? There are loads of them out there. We have to make a great U2 album and they don't care waiting as long as it's great".

TOUR! Ciara and Busta Rhymes coming to SA

If you want to see singer Ciara and hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes to South Africa, you'll have to work hard to gain entry to the event. Yes, there won't be any ticket sales for the show! Channel24 reports that the concert forms part of an initiative called "Give, get Given", and is different to other concerts as tickets are nor for sale, but must be earned through community service by the youth. By giving four hours of their time to community service, a ticket is earned to attend the concert. The concert is brought to our shores by the global youth movement organisation RockCorps. The Coca-Cola® RockCorps platform, part of the global RockCorps movement, officially launched at the Thembalethu Primary School in Meadowlands Zone 10, and promises to bring with it a teen-driven movement for change. On her performance in SA, Ciara said the following: "I am so excited to come to South Africa and perform for the thousands of volunteers who gave their time to uplifting their communities.  Using my music to empower young people to reach their potential is what I am all about.  See you in Johannesburg!" The venue and the date of the concert is yet to be announced. For more information, visit http://www.rockcorps.com/.

NEW! Linkin Park - Recharged

Back in 2002 rockers Linkin Park surprised fans with a remix album Reanimation. It was actually a "follow-up" to their Hybrid Theory CD and continued the band's experimentation by fusing various sounds together. Now they are doing it again with Recharged. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park said, "After Reanimation I told many people I would never put together another album of remixes...but as I began to hear all the amazing reinterpretations of LIVING THINGS, I had to change my mind.  The result, RECHARGED, is definitely worth it. I can’t wait for you guys to hear this amazing project, with contributions by Pusha T, Datsik, KillSonik, Bun B, Money Mark, and others. Our new song with Steve Aoki, A LIGHT THAT NEVER COMES is on the album as well, plus a special remix of the new song by the inimitable Rick Rubin. Enjoy the music!" The obvious stand out track on this remix compilation is A Light That Never Comes with CD Steve Aoki. The Tom Swoon Remix of Burn It Down is in your face brilliant as well as the Schoolboy Remix of I'll Be Gone. I am a big Linkin Park fan so it hurts my soul to say the following: unfortunately, the rest of the CD is a bit mediocre. Not the greatest ever. If there is one reason to buy the CD, it would be for the Linkin Park/Steve Aoki song, but if you are looking for a kick-ass album that will knock your front teeth out, stay clear of this one.

simfy africa announces most popular songs, user stats following its first birthday

simfy Africa, which has now passed the all important milestone of one year live to market in South Africa, has announced its charts for its first year.  The service launched in August 2012, as the first music streaming service to go live in South Africa, and has gained in popularity ever since.   Users are clearly enjoying the range of content, with over 20 million tracks to choose from, and this shows in the diversity of the charts. Pop darlings Fun. head up the list with their huge hit ‘Some Nights’, followed by the ever popular Mumford & Sons with ‘I Will Wait’.  The #1 song at the end of 2012 ‘Runaways’ by The Killers came in at #5 overall, followed by the top SA artist Jimmy Nevis with ‘Heartboxing’. Jimmy Nevis was delighted to hear this news, saying “I am grateful to simfyafrica for giving me the platform to share my music, and blessed to have such amazing fans who support me, as a South African artist. Thank you and Happy Birthday to simfyafrica! Here’s to another successful year ahead.” Pop dominates the chart with strong showings from Bruno Mars, Toya deLazy, Daft Punk and The Lumineers.  P!nk is the only artist to be featured twice on the chart.  Rock and Alternative are also very popular with a strong showing from Jack Johnson, Van Coke Kartel and Linkin Park. simfy africa is delighted to announce that  5 of the Top 25 songs are from South African artists.  This is a clear nod of approval to the immense emphasis that the service has placed on its South African catalogue since launch.  A special mention goes to ISO, iFani and LCNVL who made the top 50. Top Album – Unsurprisingly the top album is ‘Babel’ by Mumford & Sons, followed by ‘The Truth About Love’ by P!nk.  Honours for the top South African album go to ‘Wilder as die Wildtuin’ by Die Heuwels Fantasties. Die Heuwels Fantasties commented:  “It is such a surprise and honour that our favourite Die Heuwels Fantasties album is the most streamed local album on your site! Thank you simfy africa for being the first streaming service in our market and for your support – also to those of you who are listening… “Musiek is geniet!”- Pierre Greeff, Die Heuwels Fantasties. Top Artist – The most popular artist is Mumford & Sons, closely followed by Linkin Park and P!nk.  The most popular South African artist is Jimmy Nevis, followed by Kongos and Joyous Celebration.  Jimmy Nevis holds a particularly strong connection to simfy Africa, as he emerged as the very first South African artist to enter the Top 10 after launch. It has been an exciting year for content at simfy Africa including exclusives from indie rockers Imagine Dragons, MS MR, the Graeme Watkins Project and much more. Also check out the upcoming exclusive pre-stream of the new Van Coke Kartel album Bloed, Sweet & Trane which will allow simfy users to log in on the 30th September to hear 5 tracks from the album, a full week before the official release date.
Simfy africa’s users are clearly loving the service, and are listening to a significant amount of music.  The ‘Top User’ listened to the equivalent of 93 full days of music in the year [equivalent to 2231 hours of music];  followed by the next user at 78 days of music in the year [equivalent to 1873 hours of music]. A recent birthday promotion measured the amount of music listened to in one weekend.  The winner clocked up 798 plays over the three days, which is 53.5 hours of music. The service is closing in on 7 million overall plays by its users since launch, with more than 60 000 playlists created in total.  Users have downloaded all formats of their apps, but the Desktop App is the clear favourite so far.  In terms of platforms and devices, the iPhone is the most popular, followed by Android and BlackBerry.  In terms of features, users are really buying into the offline facility which allows them to listen to tracks without an internet connection.  Also popular is the new ‘low bandwidth feature’ which reduces the amount of data required by an impressive 2/3 [two thirds].  This feature is currently available on simfy africa’s mobile apps with the exception of Android, which will have this feature added in the next two weeks.

REVIEW! Avicii - True

Put on your dance shoes! The new album ‘True’ is Avicii’s biggest creative statement yet; True features the Worldwide smash hit “Wake me Up”. The song has dominated the airwaves, the Internet and global charts since it first premiered. In the UK it held the official No.1 spot for three consecutive weeks, to date it has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. Globally it has and peaked at No.1 in 70 territories, with sales continuing to mount, the single has gone multi-Platinum in Norway, Sweden and Australia – as well as Platinum here in the UK and across the rest of Europe. Any preconceived notions the masses may have about Avicii... forget 'em. The star Swede is dancing to the beat of his own drum machine. On Tim Bergling’s debut album True, out today (Sept 17) on PRMD/Island Records, you can kiss goodbye over-synthesized, highly manufactured, bland EDM ballads. Bergling, along with support from shrewd sonic talents (Chic legend Nile Rodgers, bluegrass baritone Dan Tyminski, American Idol breakout star Adam Lambert, to name just a few)—salt and peppers the music to taste like nothing you’ve ever heard before. And in case we’ve forgotten, this is the point of music. A mere five years ago, young Tim Bergling was dabbling in sound mixology from his bedroom in Stockholm. Today, Avicii is not only almost old enough to rent a car, he’s also topped music charts in over 65 countries with the savagely trendy, “Wake Me Up”—a tune that can adequately be described as “country-step.” A hybrid of progressive breaks and twanged vocals, featuring diverse collaborators R&B singer-songwriter Aloe Blacc and Mike Einziger of Incubus. The pandemic popularity of “Wake Me Up” is validation; the Swede doesn’t need a rented whip to render horsepower.

Miley Cyrus "loves" weed/cannabis

After shocking the music world with her tongue wagging and twerking, Miley Cyrus is adding to her erratic behaviour by admitting that cannabis "is the best drug in the world," reports music-news. The 20-year-old star has opened up about her opinion on the drug, which is illegal in most countries and is also referred to as marijuana or weed. Speaking to the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Miley was happy to share her love of the substance and different experiences she has had in the past while taking different things. She also enjoys taking ''molly'' - a street reference to MDMA. "I think weed is the best drug on earth. One time I smoked a joint with peyote in it, and I saw a wolf howling at the moon," she boasted to the magazine. "Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And molly, too. Those are happy drugs - social drugs. They make you want to be with friends. You're out in the open. You're not in a bathroom. I really don't like coke. It's so gross and so dark. It's like what are you, from the 90s? Ew." The singer-and-actress also addressed her iconic wagging tongue, which she used throughout her performance at this year's MTV VMAs. While she says she does it to conceal her lack of confidence when it comes to smiling, Miley also finds it "cool" and enjoys not taking herself seriously. "I just stick my tongue out because I hate smiling in pictures. It's so awkward. It looks so cheesy. Now people expect it - like, ''Put your tongue out!'' It's just easier that way. Taking pictures is so embarrassing," she confessed. "But there's also something about it that I think is cool. Every other girl is so serious - like this is my moment on the red carpet, I'm in my ball gown, looking pretty. There's something empowering about what I'm doing right now."

Lady Gaga: "No collaboration with Rihanna"

Rihanna and Lady Gaga
Fans that though there is a collaboration on the horison between Lady Gaga and Rihanna - bad news. It's not going to happen. Digital Spy reports that the pair were rumoured to have worked together on a new track from Gaga's upcoming album ARTPOP, after Rihanna teased fans telling them she had recorded a "monster" new collaboration. But Lady Gaga denied that there is something like that on the cards. During an interview on US radio station KIIS-FM, Gaga quashed the rumour after being asked about it by a fan. "Well, no, that's not true," Gaga said. "But, I mean, it's a rumour, I guess. It's a good rumour. I like Rihanna, so, it's just not true." She added: "Well, Rihanna is wonderful and I always like hanging out with her when I see her." Lady Gaga's new album ARTPOP will feature her recent single 'Applause' and be released worldwide on 11 November.

REVIEW! The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones OST

The non-score version of the Mortal Instruments: City of Bones soundtrack switches out Icelandic composer Atli Örvarsson's evocative, largely orchestral score for an 11-track collection of angst-fueled teen-pop (Demi Lovato's "Heart by Heart"), blistering post-hardcore (A.F.I.'s "17 Crimes"), quirky indie pop (Pacific Air's "Bear"), and R&B-infused electro-pop (Jessie J's "Magnetic"), all of which do their best to invoke the sights and sounds of the film adaptation of New York Times best-selling author Cassandra Clare's popular young adult, urban fantasy series.

Erasure tops Amazon's Christmas Music Chart

With Christmas literally knocking on our doors, it's nice to know that there is a Christmas music chart and even better is that electro pop outfit Erasure is topping the chart with their new CD, Snow Globe. The Erasure newsletter says, "It's a chart that Erasure have never topped before, but as soon as the standard edition of the 'Snow Globe' album went on pre-order on Monday 'Snow Globe' shot to the top of Amazon UK's Christmas Music Chart and stayed there, beating Rod Stewart, Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand and Michael Bublé in the process. OK it's a something of a niche chart, but Erasure topped it and that's good enough for me! Well done boys!

HOT SONG! Enrique Iglesias - Heart Attack

Hottie Enrique Iglesias has premiered his new single Heart Attack on American radio. The song is the second single to be released from his forthcoming 10th bilingual yet unnamed studio album, which should be out later this year. The song is a mix of guitar riffs and dubstep breakdowns that hears the star continue his foray into electronic dance music. Honestly, "Heart Attack" sounds a billion times better than his song "Turn The Night Up".

Nirvana: In Utero - 20th Anniversary Edition

To say that Nirvana's third and ultimately final studio album In Utero was 1993's most polarizing record would be the understatement of a decade. The unadorned sonic rawness of Steve Albini's recording laid bare every primal nuance of the most confrontational yet vulnerable material Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl would ever record. And with its 1991 predecessor Nevermind having sold some 30 million copies, singlehandedly returning honest rock 'n' roll to the top of the pop charts, In Utero was essentially the first record Nirvana would make with any expectations from the public. So from the opening quasi-shamble melodics of "Serve The Servants" through the bittersweet closing strains of "All Apologies," In Utero was the sound of the most incredible yet conflicted rock 'n' roll band of the era at the peak of its powers coming to terms with a generational spokes-band mantle they'd never seen coming-and ultimately surmounting these struggles to make the record they needed to make. As Rolling Stone's David Fricke said in his review at the time, "In Utero is a lot of things-brilliant, corrosive, enraged and thoughtful, most of them all at once. But more than anything, it's a triumph of the will."

HOT STUFF! Eminem's Berzerk

Freaking hell! It has been ages I got excited about a song like the new Eminem song, Berzerk from his highly anticipated upcoming CD, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. When I first listened to the song I could see The Beastie Boys, RUN DMC and Public Enemy jamming to this addictive song. Eminem’s lyrical flow in “Berzerk” is off the charts - he is shooting off his words as if he was in a different time zone. The production focuses on a heavy beat and it delivers big time to the listener. Berzerk samples the guitar riff of The Stroke from Billy Squier. As expected, Eminem takes quick verbal jags at other hip-hop stars like Birdman and Timbaland and he also makes fun of Kloe Kardashian who he refers to as the ”the ugly Kardashian” , and of Lamar Odom’s alleged problems with drugs. The video sees Eminem in front of a massive boombox and is joined by friends like  Kendrick Lamar, Rick Rubin and Kid Rock. What I really liked about this song is that it's breath of fresh air in the bland hip-hop music of today. Yes, the Em is back in full force and he has gone totally berzerk by going back to his hip-hop roots.Word up!

Daft Punk says hello to disco with new video

Watching the latest video offering from Daft Punk for their song Lose Yourself to Dance, it is a full-fledged return to the disco days. The video has a full "Soul Train" revival feel to it. The helmeted French duo play keyboard and bass, guitarist and "Random Access Memories" collaborator Nile Rodgers strums a clean rhythm and a sunglassed Pharrel Williams croons front and center. The dance floor is filled, of course, but focus on the dancers' fashion: 1970s caps and wide-lapelled leather jackets, white turtlenecks, spangled western shirts rule the floor, a long way from the T-shirted masses filling most spaces these days. As the video progresses, the band is gradually revealed to be performing at the tip of a pyramid, a reference to their era-defining live set of the late '00s. This pyramid, though, consists not of flashing video screens but human disco dancers celebrating life, lost within music. Even the poster of the video has a 70's styled Star Wars feel to it. Pretty damn good, boys!

Britney Spears' 'Work Bitch' leaks online

A day before the official release of Britney's new single, Work Bitch, the song has leaked online. And as expected, it's a massive club banger! This song is amazing. Written by Will.I.Am and Sebastian Ingorsso protégé DJ Otto Jettman, Britney give fans the secret to her success: " You want a hot body? You want a Bugatti? You want a Maserati? You better work bitch!" she coos in the song's opening lines.  The song recalls the attitude of ‘Blackout’, but in a song crafted for a post-EDM pop landscape. This record wouldn’t sound like it does if EDM hadn’t happened, but at the same time it’s a Britney track first and foremost. The most exciting bit is the middle eight which goes all epic and spacey with some proper hands-in-the-lasers lyrics says popjustice.com. The first few seconds is a thumping beat followed by an addictive club sound that sets the mood for the rest of the song. "Work Bitch" follows the June release of "Ooh La La," the lead single to "The Smurfs 2" soundtrack. Earlier this year, Spears scored another Top 5 hit with her Will.i.am collaboration "Scream & Shout."

Katy Perry's 'Roar' video criticised by PETA

It seems that Katy Perry's video Roar is attracting  unwelcome attention...PETA has publicly criticised Katy Perry for using exotic animals in her latest music video, reports Digital Spy. The animal rights organisation has slammed the singer's clip for 'Roar', claiming that the creatures are likely to have been subjected to cruelty. Merrilee Burke, a spokeswoman for PETA, told the Daily Star that the company that is thought to have supplied the animals for the shoot has a questionable track record. "The Serengeti Ranch, the animal exhibitor that we believe supplied the animals for the 'Roar' video, has been inspected by the US Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001," explained Merrilee. "It has been given a total of 13 citations during that time," she added. Merrilee also claimed that by simply having the animals - including a monkey, parrot, tigers and an elephant - on set, the singer and crew were exposing them to unnecessary stress. "Animals used for entertainment... endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods," she said. "They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations." So what do you think? Does PETA have a valid point?

Nickelback to tour South Africa: the pros and cons

Canadian rockers Nickelback will be touring South Africa in December. Big Concerts announced that the How You Remind Me singers will play Johannesburg on 6 and 8 December at the Coca Cola Dome. No dates for Cape Town has been released. Tickets for the Johannesburg shows range from R350 - R790 and available from Computicket from Friday 20 September. Yes, I like their music, but I'm a bit sceptical as the band has dropped South African fans previously. A couple of years ago, when they were at their peak, they announced a South African tour. My buddies and I immediately bought tickets to see Chad Kroeger and the guys, but a mere few weeks before the shows, they cancelled. That sucked. We were seriously pissed off with them, that is probably why I'm not that excited about this announcement...I'll just wait and see if they don't drop fans again...

HOT! Linkin Park with Steve Aoki

Ever since teasers appeared in August, LINKIN PARK and STEVE AOKI fans have been tearing apart the internet in search of the studio version of “A LIGHT THAT NEVER COMES,” their first song together.  Today, from their official websites, www.linkinpark.com and steveaoki.com, both artists have finally told fans how to find it: by playing the new, free 3D Facebook game, “LP RECHARGE” which launches today at http://bit.ly/playlprecharge. The song was originally unveiled as a surprise during Aoki’s performance at the Summer Sonic festival in Tokyo last month, where Aoki was joined onstage by Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda.  The shaky, distorted cell phone recordings from the concert were the only records of the song until now.  Today, fans will work to unveil the studio recording of the song, which, once unlocked via the game, will be serviced to radio and will stream on demand exclusively on Xbox Music. The game, a product of the imaginations of Linkin Park and gaming giant Kuuluu Interactive Entertainment AG, is a free-to-play action/strategy game featuring band-designed characters and missions.  Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, an art school graduate with a BFA in Illustration, helped design the game. “I think this song and release show where we’re at right now,” said Shinoda. “Making the song with Steve, premiering it through the Recharge Facebook game, and debuting it via Microsoft’s Xbox Music—I think it’s all indicative of our band’s commitment to experimentation and pushing boundaries.”  A LIGHT THAT NEVER COMES will be on the upcoming Linkin Park album, RECHARGED, which features new interpretations of songs from LIVING THINGS, the band’s most recent album that debuted at No. 1 in over 20 countries. RECHARGED will be released on Oct. 29 on Machine Shop Recordings / Warner Bros (full track listing and remixer reveal forthcoming.

Queen unreleased material may lead to full album

The late great Freddie Mercury
If rumours are true, there might be a new Queen album on the way featuring the legendary and one-and-only Freddie Mercury. Music-news.com reports the band, which also features drummer Roger Taylor and now retired bassist John Deacon last released new music featuring Mercury in 1995, when the singer's final recordings were paired up with archive tracks and restructured versions of his solo songs for the album Made In Heaven. At the Freddie For A Day event in Mayfair this weekend, May told iHeart Radio: "We thought we'd exhausted everything that was around and could be worked on, but since then a number of things have come to light from various sources that we'd just plain forgotten about, including the stuff with Freddie and Michael Jackson. Just a couple of weeks ago, we thought: Maybe we shouldn't be just working on bits and pieces? Maybe we should be heading towards an album? It just might be." A number of unreleased Queen songs have leaked as bootlegs over the years, in various states of completion. Their archives also include unreleased material with David Bowie, Andy Gibb and Rod Stewart, and one rumoured Michael Jackson collaboration, Victory, remains unheard, and could be included in this project.

Bloodhound Gang makes Russians see red

American rockers Bloodhound Gang is facing the wrath of the Russians. It is reported that they face criminal charges for "inciting hatred and enmity" against the country during their gigs in Ukraine in July. Digital Spy reports that a statement from Russia's Investigative Committee names the band's singer and guitarist James Moyer Franks - known under his stage name Jimmy Pop - and bassist Jared Hennegan. "Moyer, Hennegan and other unknown persons entered a criminal plot aimed at disgracing Russian citizens and formed a criminal group to that end," the statement reads. The investigation relates to a show at Kiev's Green Theater on July 30, when Hennegan placed a Russian flag down his pants, before wiping his genitals with it. He and Franks also shouted anti-Russian sentiments at that show, as well as a second gig the next day in Odessa. The band were scheduled to play at the Russian festival Kubana, but they were forced to pull out by their management. They were later banned from entering Russia for five years. Bloodhound Gang are best known for their 1999 single 'The Bad Touch'.

Miley Cyrus goes naked for new music video

Good girl gone bad Miley Cyrus is pushing the envelope once again with her new music video, Wrecking Ball. In the video the singer is seen swinging naked on a huge metal wrecking ball and licking a hammer. The Queen Of Twerk will once again have tongues wagging with this video. The song is actually a killer tune with an addictive beat and rocking chorus. “Miley has shot with famed photographer Terry Richardson a lot over the years so she’s very comfortable with him and she trusts him,” a source told HollywoodLife. “She chose him to direct her video because he’s all about pushing boundaries and making a statement. That’s what Miley’s into right now.” The source went on: “Miley loved the idea of going naked because it suits the song — she’s showing her naked emotions. It’s her vulnerable side and it’s not something she shows very often, so having nudity made sense.” It appears to have made an impact as well, with the video already stacking up over 10 million hits on YouTube less than 24 hours after it was posted.

NEW! Cher - Closer To The Truth

The one and the only Cher will release her 26th studio album Closer To The Truth on Warner Brothers Records on 30 September 2013. I think if  you’re a Cher fan, you’ll definitely be happy and not disappointed,”   commented the pop icon in a recent interview.  Cher is scheduled to begin a whirlwind global promotional tour in conjunction with the album’s release and will be appearing on several major TV shows around the world.

NEW! Erasure CD, Snow Globe, out in November

Erasure have today announced the first details of their much anticipated new studio album with the news that Snow Globe – a collection of original compositions and seasonal classics – will be released on 11 November 2013.The album will be preceded by its first single, Gaudete, Erasure’s distinctive take on the Medieval Latin carol, which was also a folk hit for Steeleye Span in 1973. ‘I haven’t actually heard him sing better,’ says Vince of Andy stepping back into the booth. ‘I found my inner choirboy again,’ says Andy. ‘I thought I’d lost him but he was there all along.’ Unlike the bells and whistles, glitter and tinsel sets that crowd the market come Christmas-time, Snow Globe is possessed of something more in the wistfully, strangely subdued celebratory mould of recent seasonal albums by Tracey Thorn and Kate Bush. ‘We managed to strip everything back to bare essentials,’ Vince says approvingly of the minimal approach Erasure took for this recording. ‘White Christmas almost has a drone all the way through it. I love that.’
