With the end of 2011 racing towards us, we at The Beat are looking SOOOOOO forward to 2012 - because it means new music! We had a look at the hottest most anticipated CDs coming to music lovers (like ourselves) in 2012.

Justin Timberlake
1. Ok, deep breaths....Mr Sexy Back Justin Timberlake is rumoured to be hitting the music scene once again next year, embarking on a worldwide tour! We can only hope this means we will see a new JT CD on our shelves sometime soon...

2. Pop Queen Madonna, or as she is known in the music industry, Her Madgesty, has been working on her twelfth studio album since July this year, and it should be ready for release early next year! The granny of pop is set to reveal her new music when she performs at the halftime show at the Super Bowl in Feb 2012.

3. Pink released a greatest hits album last year, cleverly titled 'Greatest Hits..So Far!' While the spunky singer is currently on a break after the birth of her first child, rumour has hit she will return to the studio next year to record her 7th album!

4. If their latest radio offering, 'Moves Like Jagger', is anything to go by, Maroon 5's new album is sure to impress. The band's last release was in 2010, and frontman (and super hottie) Adam Levine recently let slip in an interview that they are hoping to have something new out early next year! Yippee!

5.No Doubt! Yup, Gwen Stefani and fellow rockers will return next year with a new release! The band was hoping to release their first LP since 'Rock Steady' in 2001 in time for Christmas this year, but won't be ready in time! The band has said they want to make sure they are making "the best record we can possibly make".

6. Superstar sister of the late and great MJ, Janet Jackson, is rumoured to be releasing a new album sometime in 2012. Her last release was back in '08, she has just extended her world tour to February 2012, which makes us think she will be straight back in the studio!

7. Tik Tok Ke$ha started writing her new album while on tour this year, and says it is inspired by 1970s rock and roll. Mmm, should be interesting!

8. Ms Keys released 'The Element of Freedom' back in 2009, which featured songs like 'Put it in a love song' with Beyonce, and 'Empire State of Mind (Part 2)'. The r'n'b songstress unveiled a new song in September this year, and hopes to release a full-length album in 2012.

9.Love him or hate him, there is no denying that Eminem is a true powerhouse in the rap music scene. Rumour has it that the infamous rapper is heading back to the studio, and will release his eighth studio album next year. We can't wait to see what controversy he stirs up this time!

10. Recent visitors to our shores, U2, haven't released a new album since 2009, so we think they're overdue for a new release! While the band recorded a 'club-sounding' LP last year, it has never (and may never) been released! The band has been working on three projects, but has said they will not release an album until later next year! It may still be a bit of a wait, but it will be worth it.

11. OutKast With hits like 'Roses', 'Hey Ya!' and 'Sorry Ms. Jackson', is set, according to sources close to the band, to release a new album early next year after the completion of their solo projects.

12. Las Vegas rockers The Killers began work on their fourth studio album, tentatively titled ‘Battle Born’, in May 2011 at their Las Vegas studio. In a Q Magazine interview taken in June, Flowers stated that album would have ‘great stories told through real rock music’, potential songs include a seven-minute epic titled ‘The Slot Tech’, ‘Runaways’ and ‘The Rising Tide.’In September, drummer Ronnie Vannucci told NME that the band would begin recording the album in Nashville, Tennessee in October, and that the producer had been chosen. Both Vannucci and Flowers have stated that the album will feature a heavier use of guitars than their previous album Day & Age“.

13. In June 2011, Linkin Park revealed to Kerrang! that the band has begun working on new material for their next album. He explained, “We’ve been working on a new record for the past two months. The music is great and we’re well ahead of where we’re expecting to be. There aren’t a whole lot of noises going on, but there are a lot of good songs. It will probably get a very polarized reaction. Which pleases me. As an artist, I want a reaction.” The singer added that the band would be looking to tackle controversial topics on their new album, rather than the more personal subjects of their older material. “We’ve learned how to write serious songs and serious lyrics. We’ve learned how to deal with politics, faith and other things. Those are things that can get preachy really quickly, which we don’t want to do. So you need to learn to talk to people and not at people”, he said.” Rick Rubin will produce the upcoming album and Bennington said he would be “shocked” if it was not released in 2012.

14. Green Day have been up to their secret show shenanigans over the past few months and have been busting out plenty of new songs at these gigs, so it should be safe to assume we’ll be hearing something new in 2012.

15. Paramore have released several new songs already in 2011 and it looks like we can expect a full album in 2012. This will be their first album since the departure of guitarist Josh Farro & drummer Zac Farro.

Die Antwoord's Ten$ion
* Justin Bieber says of his new release, "I'm trying to create a new sound that people aren't really used to hearing...it's going to be like when Justin Timberlake did". We wait with baited breath....
* Die Antwoord - Ten$ion. The ultra-bizarre, South African hip-hop group are prepping their second full-length in February 2012.
* The recently, re-united Garbage have announced completion of their fifth studio album. Look for the first single to drop in January 2012.
* Sinead O'Connor - How About I Be Me (And You Be You)? will hit stores early 2012.
* Soundgarden will release their first new album since 1996's “Down On The Upside” in 2012.

The (Backstreet) Boys are back

The Backstreet Boys
It seems there is no stopping boy band The Backstreet Boys! The boy band, or rather man band as they are all grown-up and adults now, have announced that they will record a new CD in 2012. Digital Spy reports the 'I Want It That Way' boyband had previously revealed exclusively to Digital Spy in October their plans for an eighth studio LP. Singer Howie Dorough told Clevver Music: "That's one of the things that we're going to be happening this next year, is we're going to be in the studio working on a new record." Dorough, who is joined in the group by Brian Littrell, Nick Carter and AJ McLean, went on to emphasise the importance of each new record sounding fresh. "That's always the challenge working on new albums; trying to push the envelope, trying to always top the last album. But that's what we do," the star continued. "That's one of the reasons why we take our time to make the record the best it can be. To not rush it and to keep your finger on the pulse of what's hot."

CD REVIEW! Young Jeezy - TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition

The long awaited and long-delayed third installment of Young Jeezy's autobiographical Thug Motivation trilogy finally sees the day of light. Southern rap’s “Snowman” gathered some friends like Drumma Boy, Lil’ Lody and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League for the beats on TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition while the guest list includes such heavy hitters as Jay-Z, Andre 3000, T.I., Snoop Dogg and Jadakiss. The coke dealer turned rapper's CD doesn't dissapoint, but also isn't a winner. One thing is for certain, things change fast in hip-hop and it seems Young Jeezy forgot about that. Fans of the rapper will enjoy the CD, but it won't get him that new fans he was hoping for. PS:  Jeezy is also releasing a 42-minute documentary, “A Hustlerz Ambition,” narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, which recounts the rapper’s troubled childhood and rise to fame. You can watch the full film on BallerStatus.com.

CD REVIEW! Milk & Sugar - The Album

German housemusic producers Mike Milk (real name, Michael Kronenberger) and Steven Sugar (real name, Steffen Harding) give disco-house lovers a taste of their sugar sweet music. The CD, titled The Album, is groovy number which caters of all tastes of house music, and even throw in a South African flavour with the song Hi-A Ma (Pata Pata) ft Miriam Makeba. The CD is great for your New Year's eve party and should be a hit on the dance floors. Other songs we liked are Hey (Nah Neh Nah) vs Vaya Con Dios, What Is Love (Anyway) ft Howard Jones.

Etta James still in hospital

Etta James
The Grammy-winner singer Etta James is still in hospital and on a breathing machine, reports Jill Serjeant for Reuters. Etta (73), who is best known for the blues ballad "At Last," was taken to the hospital near her home in Riverside, east of Los Angeles, earlier this week because she was struggling to breathe. "They took her to the hospital. She was having trouble breathing, so they intubated her. She is on a breathing machine and is resting," Lupe De-Leon, the singer's manager for 30 years, told Reuters. The singer has been in failing health for a number of years and suffers from leukemia, kidney disease and dementia but had previously been cared for at her Southern California home. Her live-in doctor said last week that James was considered terminally ill, and that she communicates mostly with nods and simple words. The three-time Grammy Award singer earlier battled obesity and was addicted to heroin for many years. "It is really sad. She is like my sister," De-Leon said on Friday. James was a key figure in the early days of R&B music with hit songs like "The Wallflower" and "Good Rockin' Daddy". But it was her 1961 recording of "At Last" that put her on the map.

NEW! 2 Lady Gaga songs for Xmas

Lady Gaga
Born This Way singer Lady Gaga has, as promised, leaked not one, but TWO new unreleased tracks to her fans on Christmas day. Lady GaGa has made a previously unheard track called 'Stuck on F**kin You' available. Lady Gaga wrote an introduction to the semi-acoustic track on YouTube, explaining: "So, to give you a little background to the creation of this song. I wrote it in Minnesota after the 'Monster Ball' on the tour bus. "We recorded it in one shot. Fernando on guitar, Paul on Drum Machine. I wrote, sang it, and freestyled the last minute and a half of the song." A second track by the Born This Way musician entitled 'Take You Out' also leaked late on Saturday (Christmas Eve). The pop-tinged number features the refrain: "I still believe it/ And you know we won't be defeated/ In my heart, I believe it/ Yeah, you and me are gonna win it." Lady Gaga - who stressed that the second track was not the song she intended to release on Christmas Day - added: "So funny 'Take You Out' a song I wrote in 2008 leaked. "I wrote it for an artist to sing as the World Cup song! Maybe they'll use it now!" Listen to the song HERE!

Hostix Mabuse talks Christmas

The legendary Hostix Mabuse tells Martin Myers what his plans are for Christmas day.

Martin Myers with Hotstix Mabuse
How will you be spending Christmas? With my family and the kids.
Where are you going for the holidays? I will be at home with the family.
How does your childhood Christmas differ from Christmas today? I grew up in a very humble home so we celebrated with just the basics and had good family and friends around. We still celebrate with family and friends but I am very mindful of the meaning and essence of Christmas.
Are there any Christmas experiences that stand out in your memory? Yes. Will never forget the first Christmases with my daughters and to see the smile on a baby's face. They know it is something special but can only articulate it through smiles and laughter.
What would be on your Christmas wish list if you could receive any present at any price? I am not a flashy guy but I would love more knowledge and somehow the ability to solve people's problems. These are priceless.
What’s the best present you have ever received (and why)? No one present is ever better than the next and the gift of giving is more important. Even a simple SMS from people overseas means a lot.
What’s the worst present you ever received (and why)? Not hearing from friends who you think will call and don't.
Who is the hardest person to shop for (and why)? My children!
A present you can never get enough of? E.g. chocolate, flowers etc. Books - I love them, especially biographies pertaining to great people on the African continent.
Is it the thought that counts or the gift that matters? Definitely the thought, but I do like to spoil my loved ones.
Do you have any ideas for DIY gifts (and have you ever received or made a gift)? The gift of music is my DIY gift and I made my own cards when I was a youngster! LOL!
What song do you want to usher in the New Year with? I think this year I will stick to the traditional Auld Lang Syne.
What advice/values/lasting impressions of your parents and upbringing do you carry with you and try to pass along to your (grand)child? Always respect your elders and be grateful for what you have. Always surround yourself with good people - family and friends.

Christmas with Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga (Universal)
Lady Gaga had a hard time to decide what to give her Little Monsters for Christmas, but on Facebook, she finally announced what to give her fans: "I've been racking my brain on what to get my Little Monsters for Christmas! Finally I figured it out! On Christmas day, I will leak to you an unreleased song off Born This Way! It was recorded live, in one take, on the tour bus. Uncensored." The 'Marry the Night' singer, who arrived in Tokyo earlier this week, will remain in the country through the holiday and plans to share a meal with some of her Japanese fans. "Well I'll be in Japan right up until Christmas day," She told MTV News. "So I'll be eating with all my Japanese 'little monsters'. I like shabu-shabu (a Japanese hot pot dish)." Lady Gaga also posted a tweet on Wednesday morning (December 21) which read: "Sipping tea in Japan with Haus. Feeling so grateful. We sold about 1 million albums a month worldwide since the release of Born This Way. Check out the video for Lady Gaga's Marry The Night HERE!
