“No new Outkast album”

Hip-hop duo Outkast have no plans to work on another album, reports Digital Spy. Last year, there were reports that the Grammy winning group featuring Andre 3000 and Big Boy would release their seventh album this year. “There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet about and Outkast album, and I have to say that, as of now, there are no plans,” Andre 3000 reportedly to GQ. “There’s a lot of music on the horizon. I’ve been living off the excitement of new artists. I’ve been privileged to have these new artists kind of reach out and back and say, ‘Hey Andre, we want you on this song.’” He added, “As far as Outkast, I really don’t know if or when it will happen.”

Mariah and Whitney
R&B diva Mariah Carey has paid tribute to the late Whitney Houston in a new music video. Digital Spy reports that Mariah, who considered herself a good friend of Whitney and who recorded the duet When You Believe with Whitney, was among the many stars who attended Whitney’s funeral service. Mariah has now compiled highlights of her favourite memories of Houston on her official YouTube page. The specially-produced video includes clips from their 'When You Believe' music video as well as pictures of the two stars together at awards shows and red carpet events. Mariah also posted the video remembrance on her Twitter, writing: "Whitney, my friend, I love you, I miss you. Your legend lives on forever. The two stars were admitted rivals as their careers took off in the early 1990s, but later became friends when they recorded 'When You Believe' for the 1998 film The Prince of Egypt. Mariah was among the many stars who blogged about Houston in the hours after her death on February 11. EXCLUSIVE! Lonehill Estate ready to takeover Hollywood

It’s a dream come true for every South African band - to play in America. Johannesburg based acoustic rock band Lonehill Estate is about to take on America when they jet off to glitz and glam of Los Angeles for a couple of gigs. The Beat sat down with Nathan Ro (vocals and acoustic guitar for the band) as they prepare for the trip. He opened up about what they will be packing, their preparation for the gigs, what’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever thrown on stage and their new material coming out later this year!

Lonehill Estate
How did you guys end up playing Hollywood? We have the privilege of being invited to Musexpo (an annual international music and media conference held in Hollywood) for a showcase by the organisers that found us online.
When did you hear for the first time you're going to LA/Hollywood? There was some talk of it happening towards the end of last year but was confirmed in Februatry.
Where in LA/Hollywood will you play? We will be playing at the Musexpo in Hollywood and the Viper Room on the sunset strip!
What do you expect from the international audience? We have absolutely no clue! What we do know is that people are people and that generally what people in SA like, most international audiences should be able to appreciate too.
How did you decide to on the set list? We want to play a tight set that sums up who we are and showcases us best. Once we know what our goal is, the songs choose themselves.
Any fun/awkward/weird moment/incident you can tell us about in preparations for the trip? Yes, Nathan has started speaking in an American accent now and then. Very embarrassing.…!!
With any rock show, fans usually throw things on stage. What do you guys usually do with the stuff and what was the weirdest object someone has thrown on stage? We once had a bra thrown on stage that had a cup size that was off the alphabet scale! I am pretty sure it was used in a 'Yo Mamma' joke!
What does playing "America" mean for you as a band? Extra kilos from all the fast food!! Seriously, it is every musicians dream to be able to showcase your music and songs in America and for us its no different.
Any possible future trips/developments from this? We haven't even been on the trip and there is already some interest in Germany and Japan so it could end up being a very exciting year for Lonehill Estate!
What other big projects do you guys have lined up for 2012? We will have a full length album out towards the end of March that will include our singles and some exciting new material!
What advice would you guys give to any band playing international? Not sure, we haven't done it yet! I do think that bands need to be true to themselves regardless of where they play.
When you guys travel, what's the 5 most important things you pack in? iPods, Tea Bags, Fruit, Duck Tape and most importantly Steri Stumpies!
How did you get over jet leg in general? We take a small trampoline and portable candy-floss machine on international flights. 3 hours before the allotted bedtime we make the floss and jump for three hours solid... this ensures a good nights rest is had by all.

CD REVIEW! Pet Shop Boys - Format

Anyone who grew up in the 80s should know British electronic dance due Pet Shop Boys. Their hits span decades and they have entertained us with huge hits like West End Girls. It’s A Sin, Always On My Mind and many more. Members Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant have always been musical pioneers who have always find ways to re-invent themselves for the new generation. The group, who has already started to work on their new CD, just released a best of package, Format. The CD is a double disc of pure electronic dance and features 38 b-sides and bonus material. The CD is a sequel to their 1995 earlier b-sides release Alternative. Format includes all the b-sides to their hits between 1996 - 2009. It’s great listening music for those who likes an electro dance pop twang to their music.

SEX TAPE! It's not Adele…

The French Magazine ‘Public’ who has published photos it claimed were from the sex tape starring the British Grammy winner Adele, now seem to do a u-turn and confirmed that the images is not of Adele. The magazine is now facing the wrath of Adele as she is suing the magazine. According to MailOnline, her lawyer has released the following statement: "We are informed that the French magazine 'Public' has today published images which it claims show our client in a sex tape. Our client has not appeared in a sex tape as claimed in the article. Our client does not appear in the photographs. Such claims are untrue and grossly defamatory. Our client is taking legal action in relation to this matter." Earlier today Jean-Claude Elfassi, the photographer behind the fake photos, tweeted 'Tant que c'est gratuit et si ça peut te faire plaisir : 'je présente mes excuses à toutes les Adèle du monde' which roughly translates as 'If it makes you happy: 'I apologize to all the world Adele'.

Whitney Houston's "LIVE" funeral

Whitney Houston
Fans of singer Whitney Houston, who died last Saturday, will be able to follow her private memorial service on the Internet. Channel24 reports that the singer's private memorial service is to take place at the New Hope Baptist Church, in Newark, New Jersey - where she sang as a child - on Saturday (18.02.12) and her publicist Kristen Forster has announced a camera will be allowed inside to film the ceremony so Whitney's millions of fans can watch it online and grieve for her. Following the service, Whitney will be laid to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, in the plot next to her late father John Houston. According to reports, the funeral is set to be attended by around 1 500 mourners, including many names from the music world such as Chaka Khan, songwriter Diane Warren, LA Reid and Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick. Aretha Franklin - who was the star's godmother - has been asked to perform at the service. However, Whitney's mother Cissy Houston and her family have reportedly barred her ex-husband Bobby Brown from attending because they blame him for getting her hooked on drugs during their disastrous marriage. Bobby - who has an 18-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina from his relationship with Whitney - is quoted by gossip blog TMZ.com as saying he is "extremely disappointed" by the news, and insists he wants to attend, but he "hasn't decided on a plan of action yet".

Sasha Martinengo - the Italian music Stallion

Sasha Martinengo (5FM)
Well-known 5FM music presenter/DJ and F1 lover, Sasha Martinengo, is leaving the station at the end of March. On the 5FM web page, station manager Aisha Mohamed explained that "The decision comes as part of the station’s annual line-up change, which takes place from 1 April 2012. Line-up changes are an unfortunate part of the radio landscape. Every year 5FM, along with the SABC ‘s 17 other radio properties, evaluate their on-air line-up for the year ahead. Sasha will unfortunately not be with us from April onwards. The change comes as part of a long-term strategic plan to revise our on air offering. We are enormously appreciative of Sasha’s incredible work ethic, his dedication to the listeners and his support of the 5FM brand. The station however needs to evolve and change as our listeners do. It has been absolutely wonderful working with Sasha. He’s been a huge asset to the 5FM team and we will miss him as an on-air personality and as a team player.” Sasha commented by saying “Working at 5FM hasn’t just been a job, it’s been my life. I’d like to think I have entertained my listeners over the years. I have had a brilliant time and will miss my 5FM family. Thank you for all the years of fun and support.” The Beat caught up with Sasha to talk about him leaving, his love for fast cars, music and the Italian blood that runs through his veins.
When did you hear about the changes coming and how did you feel about it? I was told on a Thursday afternoon, 2 weeks ago. I wasn't very happy.
What are you going to miss the most at your job at 5FM? The continuous new music and the freedom to be oneself on air
Can you give us a glimpse into a day in the life of Sasha Martinengo? Up early, drop kids at school. Do my radio show, voice overs, read on F1, get ready for next day's radio show. Maybe some meetings, maybe nothing so chill at home.
Can you remember the first tune you ever played on 5FM? Lightning seeds - Change.
You are also very involved with the F1 scene. A good friend of mine, Jaco Janse van Rensburg, from Wellington, actually won a ticket to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which you also attended. Where did you love for fast cars started? I have always loved cars since I was about 5 years old. I went to  my first grand prix when I was 6 and I saw F1 and fell in love
How did you end up combining your love for music/DJ and fast cars? Both are about melody and passion. Quite simple. I live them both.
So who is Sasha when he is not in front of the microphone? A passionate Italian that loves to make other people smile and happy.
Tell us a bit about your home life - wife, children? I have a wife, ha ha, she has been incredibly supportive during the years. My two kids are a joy. My daughter is Deputy Head Girl at Brescia House which is just brilliant and my son has just started high school and already made the 1st XI cricket side. Every day is a blessing to be with them.
What do listeners not know about Sasha? Well, I have been rather open with them during the years so I don't think there is to much they don't know. Perhaps that I am ambidextrous and my eyes are different colours.
You have any pets? I have cats. My kids have 2 dogs.
What makes you laugh, and what makes you angry? British humour, I only get angry when people are inefficient or incompetent. I am Italian and can blow up for no reason sometimes too.
So what is your future plans? I am working on some things. Nothing yet but I still will be on SuperSport presenting F1.
You have released great CDs, will you still be doing that in the near future? Thank you. Yes I will. Music will always be part of my life.
If you could choose a song to close the show, which one would it be and why? I know the song, listen on 30 March to find out. It is a song just for me.

WIN! 5FM and The Beat are giving two readers the chance to win Sasha Martinengo vs DJ DECKS CD. Email us HERE the answer to following question: What was the name of the song and the band he played on 5FM for the first time? In subject line, write SASHA. Closing date: 29 February 2012.

Lady Gaga cuts back on monster tour

Born This Way singer Lady Gaga is apparently downsizing her Born This Way Ball Tour from 450 performances over the course of two years, to only 110 dates. On the upside of things, she is expanding her tour of Australia and just added a third Melbourne concert before her first two have even gone on sale. According to the Herald Sun, there has been an overwhelming demand for tickets during a pre-sale period, meaning that the singer will now play at Rod Laver Arena on June 30 in addition to previously-confirmed shows on June 27 and June 28. Australia will be one of the first countries to see Lady GaGa's 'Born This Way Ball' show. According to the musician, her stage design will include a "Monster Pit" area where fans can win a chance to meet her after the show. She has also referred to the tour as an "electro-metal pop-opera". Well, let's hope that she still visit our shores here in South Africa. . .

CD REVIEW! Mi Casa - Music

If you have not heard of the house band Mi Casa, you clearly have been living under a rock. These guys have been blazing the airwaves across the country with their soulful sounds as well as getting raving reviews from their live performances. Made up of three very talented musicians Micasa is taking house music to a whole new level, with Dr Duda on the rocking beats, Mo –T‘s brilliance with the Trumpet and J’Something on superb vocals. Brownie points to J’Something for being  easy on the eye, but he is not just a pretty face his voice adds intensity to the already faultless sound. The 14 track album which consists of uber hot tunes from the ever so popular “These Streets” to “La Vida’’ and “Heavenly Sent” all the way to the last track “Beautiful” is carefully put together to seduce any music lover’s senses. The only downside to the album is that just when you are about to thoroughly get into the rhythm the track ends and a new song starts. It would be brilliant if the songs could just flow into each other and keep on going till the cows come home, other than that the album is a great investment. They may be the new kids on the block but Mi Casa is trailblazing their way to success, hopefully they will walk away with a SAMA or two this year. To see what Mi Casa is up to you can catch them on facebook: micasamusic or follow Micasa on twitter: @micasamusic or just visit their website: www.micasamusic.com. (By Tsholofelo Kgosimmele)

Chiano Sky on boys, love and music....

The 18-year-old Chiano Sky is making waves around the country with her hit song "Sick Sick". The singer is one of those rare gems who really has the full package - the looks, the voice and she writes incredible music!  "I write about boys. I write about love. I write about heartache," she says. "It's about the kind of things that people have written about for centuries, but as a songwriter you interpret these things differently and in your unique voice." The Beat caught up with her on Valentine's Day and she told us about her favourite love song, if she’s dating or not and what a guy has to do to catch her attention!
Chiano Sky (EMI)
What has been the most appreciated Valentine's gift you've ever received? This deep red love letter this boy made for me with a rose that he pressed and stuck on it, I still have it after my primary school years.
And the worst one ever? Is there really a worst? Getting something is always a spoil on Valentine’s Day.
What are you planning for Valentine's Day? Damn I'm going to spoil myself to the sweetest piece of cake , and go dancing around the city blowing kisses and throwing winks with my single lady friends probably screaming out the lyrics to the song 'I Don't Need A Man' by the Pussycat Dolls hunting cupid , something along those lines.
You single at the moment, or is there a Mr ChianoSky....? I am a free bird and damn I'm digging it.
How would you describe you ideal man? You don't have to have the sexiest face just the sexiest heart and soul , A man who can keep a smile on my face, genuine! And a man who does not wear his ego on his sleeve will do.
What about love inspires you to write songs? Just how vulnerable one is able to get no matter how tough they are when love hits them over the head.
What is your favourite love song? It’s a toss between Kylie Minogue's 'Love At First Sight ' and Nina Simone's 'My Baby Don't Care'.
What is the corniest pick-up line you have ever heard or what someone has tried on you? I once heard this line 'Are you from Jamaica ? Cause your 'Ja Making' me crazy ' , though I'm not going to lie as corny as it is I would probably have the silliest grin on my face if a guy pulled it on me.
How would you go about catching the eye of a guy/get his attention? It’s all about the eyes , I would reel him in like a foolish fish with my eyes.
Complete the sentence: Love Is.....exactly what you want it to be.

Lady Gaga: "Adele deserved every award"

Lady Gaga at the Grammy's 2012
For those who were lucky enough to have seen the Grammy Awards on Sunday evening, you would have seen that Adele lifted the roof when she sang Rolling In The Deep and got a standing ovation from everyone...except Momma Monster, Lady Gaga. The 'Born This Way' singer took a while to get up, after the rest of the audience were already on their feet going nuts for Adele's performance. So we thought maybe Lady Gaga was upset losing to Adele in every category they were nominated in against each other. Surprise surprise, it was not the case! The singer insisted that Adele should have won a seventh Grammy for being a "lovely" woman. Lady GaGa wrote on Twitter: "What a beautiful night last night was, Adele deserved every award she won and perhaps an extra one for being such a kind and lovely woman." Meanwhile, Adele has described her live comeback performance at the ceremony as a "really peaceful" experience. Bliss!
