Blake Shelton: Based On A True Story. . .

Blake Shelton is one of the "most versatile of contemporary country singers" (The New York Times). With seven consecutive No. 1 singles (twelve overall), Blake’s infectious multi-week No.1 hit, “Honey Bee" holds the record for the fastest-selling digital Platinum single for a male country solo artist. Black releases his highly anticipated new album “Based On A True Story”. The album features his current smash hit, “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Digital Tracks chart in its first week of release. “Sure Be Cool If You Did” has created a buzz, with Entertainment Weekly calling it “ludicrously catchy” with an A- rating and Newsday saying it shows “exactly how ‘The Voice’ coach-judge manages to maintain his country cred while wading into the mainstream.”

Jack Parow sê 'Welcome To Parowside'!

Smaak my jy ís 'n besig man deesdae. Jy't getoer, werk aan nuwe CD en nou is die DVD uit! Hoe hou jy alles bymekaar? Booze and Redbull. Ha ha! Nee,ek probeer ma' net my bes om te "focus.  As daar so baie goed aan die gang is kan ‘n mens maklik verloore raak, so ek konsentreer maar net daarop om my "energy" reg te split tussen alles.

Vertel ons bietjie van die DVD? Sy naam is Welcome To Parowside.

My karakter is neef, ek is 'n rapper uit 'n klein dorpie waar niemand van rap hou nie, so ek is so half die "odd one out".

Steeds drie-vingers sterk.

Justin Bieber's drug bust, again

Teen superstar Justin Bieber's tour bus was stopped and seized for drugs Sunday night, it has been confirmed. Music-news.com  reports that the 19-year-old Baby singer is currently on the North American leg of his Believe concert tour. He played in Toronto, Canada on July 26, with his next dates taking place in the US cities of Detroit, Michigan and Newark, New Jersey. According to TMZ, a "bus associated with Justin Bieber's tour was stopped" at Ambassador Bridge, which connects Windsor, Canada to Detroit. After a drug-sniffing hound detected narcotics on board, the vehicle was searched and authorities discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Justin wasn't on the bus at the time and has not been charged with any crime in association with this drug discovery. The bus driver was issued a citation and the rest of the passengers were released without incident. This isn't the first time Justin's tour vehicle has been suspected of housing drugs this year. Swedish police reportedly searched Justin's bus in Stockholm in April on suspicion that there was marijuana on board. Officers allegedly uncovered a "small amount" of the illegal drug in the vehicle, along with a stun gun - which requires a permit.

Die Antwoord's Cookie Thumper is freakin' HOT!

Yo-Landi Vi$$er in Cookie Thumper
We love local zep rappers Die Antwoord. In our humble opinion, they are the best music export from South Africa at the moment, and now celeb blogger Perez Hilton has chosen their new song Cookie Thumper as one of his best songs worthy a post. In his blog post Perez says:  Die Antwoord is like acid! A trip! Thankfully, a good one! A wild one! A weird one! The South African duo is back with a bizarre new video and a juicy new song that's like Peaches on crack and backwards! Cookie Thumper is a narrative video, directed by the other half of Die Antwoord, Ninja and tells the story of a schoolgirl who lives in an orphanage, played by Yo-Landi Vi$$er, who has a crush on Anies, a gangster recently released from prison. After Vi$$er’s character gets some drugs from Anies, she screeches into a high-energy lust-filled love song to the gangster, with scenes of her smoking marijuana, parading in naught but tiny shorts and in a yellow crocheted bikini top and urinating on the orphanage's stairs. Yo-landi and Anies meet in a love scene that is bound to provoke fans and critics alike."Sny jou koekie, sny sny jou koekie" are just some of the lyrics belted out by manic pixie  Yolandi Vi$$er. We just LOVE this! The group's new CD, Donker Mag is reportedly out early in 2014.

Playlist: tracks you need to hear

What would the world be without new music? Here are some cool tunes, as suggested by our friends at Digital Spy, that is worth a listen.

One Direction: 'Best Song Ever' (out now)
Yes it sounds like most of their other singles, but there's something about 1D's latest track - which heads up their upcoming This Is US movie - that we can't get out of our heads. Our guess is it's something to do with the song's two choruses and the ridiculously addictive "Oh-oh-oh's".

Avril Lavigne: 'Rock N Roll' (release date TBC)
Avril picks up where she left off with her previous track (as always) with another chantalong pop-rock anthem. But while 'Here's To Never Growing Up' never quite hit the spot for us, 'Rock N Roll' sounds like a global smash in waiting.

Ariana Grande: 'Baby I' (out July 23)
After turning heads with the Mariah-isms of her previous hit 'The Way', Ariana Grande continues to fuel comparisons with her new track; a smooth R&B jam that hears her effortlessly whistle through the ad-libs like a true diva.

Joel Baker: 'Further The Feelings' (out now)
Unsigned singer-songwriter Joel Baker has attracted hundreds of thousands of online hits between his unique take on other artists' tracks and his own compositions. With fans such as Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens behind him, things can only get bigger and better.

Example: 'All The Wrong Places' (out September 8)
Continuing his release pattern of debuting new material every year, Example has kick started album number five with a storming electronic number that is destined to soundtrack the crazier section of his live shows.

To Be Frank: 'Nothing' (out now)
The producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist we only know as Frank builds on the buzz generated from his stripped-back debut 'If You Love Her' with 'Nothing'; a moody and intensely dark number whose hypnotic synths pull you in from the off.

Farryl Purkiss' song “Ways to Live Forever” to be heard in US Cinemas

Farryl Purkiss

"No, no, no Mr Bieber"- Britney Spears gives advice

Britney Spears reportedly had to 'talk some sense' into Justin Bieber about his bad behaviour, reports music-news.com. Justin has been capturing negative headlines for several months and has most recently been accused of spitting in a DJ's face at a nightclub. Britney shot to international stardom when she released her album .Baby One More Time! in 1999 at the age of 18. She also had her fair share of negative press in the past, as the songstress was under public scrutiny when she visited rehab, divorced and experienced a mental breakdown in 2007. Apparently Justin's milieu have been really worried about him recently and asked Britney to impart her knowledge to the troubled teen.
'Justin's team asked her to talk some sense into him,' a source told British newspaper The Sun. Britney remains under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears, who is currently in control of the star's assets under its terms. It is said she made it clear to Justin during their conversation that it is easy to lose perspective with a hard partying lifestyle. 'Britney warned him of the slippery slope that can easily lead to rehab ' or even death ' among young pop stars,' the insider detailed. Britney's conservatorship order was enacted after she was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold and stripped of visitation rights for her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline. She has since regained access to her children and has reportedly signed a multi-million dollar deal to perform a series of concerts in Las Vegas.

CD REVIEW! Wale - The Gifted

The Gifted is the third studio album by American rapper Wale. With singles like "Bad,” (first featuring Tiara Thomas and now remixed with worldwide sensation, Rihanna), rested at #1 on the U.S. charts for 7 consecutive weeks and is now certifiably gold, it’s easy to believe Wale when he says this is his best work to date. Tracks like “Clappers” featuring: Nicki Minaj and Juicy J and the soulful “LoveHate Thing” featuring soul singer and new comer Sam Dew have inspired both fans and critics alike to call Wale a “genius” for this latest offering.  Throughout his career, Wale has released a series of critically acclaimed mix tapes and received praise for his debut album, “Attention Deficit.” “Ambition,” Wale’s second album, was a chart-topper, reaching #1 on the Billboard Rap charts and presented the platinum selling, Grammy nominated hit record, “Lotus Flower Bomb.” With an artist as complex and multi-talented as Wale, it’s often difficult to capture their essence in just one interview. With this in mind, Atlantic Records has developed the first artist centric digital magazine. “The Beat of Atlantic,” is a web based publication that explores the inner workings of the talented Mr. Folarin and provides fans an inside view.

DVD REVIEW! Jane's Addiction - Live In NYC

Live In NYC  was filmed in New York City at Terminal 5 during a special run of North American shows - called “Theatre of the Escapists”- with the rocking band performing in intimate venues, most of which are classic theatres. The alternative rock pioneers - frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins, along with Chris Chaney on bass--captured this immersive theatrical experience on tape and are making available via Live In NYC  in multiple configurations. “We chose to play as many of the great theatres that we could find because we wanted to immerse the audience in a unique experience unlike any they have ever seen at a rock show,” said FARRELL in the band’s tour announcement. “Expect an orgy of musical and visual delights. We like orgies, and hope you do too.”

NEW! Avril Lavigne's "Rock N Roll" track

Rock chick Avril Lavigne has premiered her new single online. The singer will release 'Rock N Roll' as the second cut to be lifted from her forthcoming fifth studio album. Digital Spy reports that the track was produced by Max Martin (Britney Spears, Katy Perry) and co-written by Lavigne with her husband Chad Kroeger, Richard Goransson, David Hodges, Jacob Hindlin and Peter Svensson. 'Rock N Roll' serves as the follow-up to current single 'Here's To Never Growing Up', which has so far peaked at number 20 on the US Hot 100 chart. The star recently hinted at plans to release more than one new album, following her fifth collection in September. "I kinda wanna do the back-to-back records because I've worked so hard on writing a ton of songs and I just wanna make it perfect," she said. Listen to Rock N Roll, HERE!

CD REVIEW! Various - African Chants

This is truly a collection of African gems. It's an emotionally, rewarding, innovative and technically impressive release. The album presents a diverse range of vocal gems, from international hits to traditional hymns, spiced with exciting new compositions. It's unexpected and unique, and brings together pop, rock, classical, gospel, choral and African music in a collection that far exceeds a mere compilation of covers. A rock or pop song becomes memorable when it tells a story which is passionate and to the point. This makes reinterpreting, rather than just covering well-loved classics, a high stakes gamble. In this collection boldness pays off handsomely, and African Chants brings together many powerful expressions of music to create a unique eclectic sound, which manages to be both surprising yet comfortably familiar.

The best Depeche Mode concert....Ever!

Electro synth pioneers Depeche Mode is known for their amazing shows. From the stage production, the visuals, the music and the fans. Me, being a HUGE Depeche Mode fan, went looking back at all the shows the band has ever done and came to the conclusion that their best ever show was Live in Hamburg, or as it's known in the music industry - The World We Live In and Live in Hamburg. This was also Depeche Mode's first ever legit first video release, featuring almost an entire concert from their 1984 Some Great Reward Tour, in Hamburg, Germany on 14 December 1984. Ok, I understand people won't agree with me (what about 101? Touring the Angel: Live in Milan? Tour of the Universe : Barcelona?), but I do have my reasons, and here they are. The Some Great Reward CD is probably regarded is the best of the DM releases in the early 80s. They were edgy, the sound was almost industrial like, they were regarded as leather-pervy guys who can turn sweet innocent catholic girls into leather wearing sluts, and the band they made good solid music. At that time Depeche Mode was not your general mainstream music like their other electro peers. They were regarded as underground electro synth pop and had a cult following. It was cool to be Depeche Mode fan then. They were on the rise and the music sucked you into their pervy lyrics and industrial sound. What set The World We Live In and Live in Hamburg apart from 101 and other aforementioned concerts is that they played songs then, that you don't hear now on their tour list. Yes, Photographic is still played, but then it was pure electro orgasm without the sample-loop sounds from the Black Celebration era, or mainstream poppy Violator or "we use live instruments" Devotional CD. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED those CDs and shows, but watching The World We Live In and Live in Hamburg just gave me goose bumps.
A young Dave Gahan with Live In Hamburg
You don't get this concert on DVD. It's only available on VHS and it's pricy these days and a collector’s item. Songs like Leave In Silence, Lie To Me, Told You So and See You are hardly on their latest concert playlists. Also, and this is my favourite, is the inclusion of the B-side song Shout on this concert. It sounded better and clearer that the original version! The sound of this was amazing. Hearing how different, yet similar, the songs sounded live to their CD (or then vinyl) counterparts were mind blowing. How they adapted each song to fit in with the feel of that time in their musical meteoric rise to fame, hearing some glitches, and Dave Gahan grunting over the mic, makes this show the best Depeche Mode concert....EVER! Ok, now you can criticise me... Here is my FAVOURITE track from that concert, Shout. The track was the B-Side of their single, New Life.

CD REVIEW! Jay-Z - Magna Carta... Holy Grail

I am a huge Jay-Z fan, but even I was quite disappointed with his latest offering, Magna Carta... Holy Grail. Although Jay-Z surrounds himself with the best talent money can buy - producers include Timbaland and Pharrell Williams; guest performers range from Justin Timberlake (mimicking Adam Levine, for some reason), and Mrs. Carter, Beyoncé – this is his most disappointing disc since 2009’s Kingdom Come. But money can't buy you genuine artistic inspiration. It may be a slick-sounding album, from the Afrobeat rhythms of "BBC" to the Nintendo-inspired warbles and popping metallic percussion on "Tom Ford." But Jay-Z's flow is stunted, his rhymes exceptionally superficial. It's hard to feel much pity for "woes of fame" opener "Holy Grail" when Jay-Z follows it with "Picasso Baby," rhyming about wanting a trillion bucks and a wife that makes love like a prostitute. Surprisingly, The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann liked the disc. He told MTV.com, "I heard some remarkable pieces from this new album early on but what is really exceptional about the whole work is its diversity. It's not so much that Jay plays by the rules, he just makes them up as he goes along. The pundits will of course pund but Jay just continues to move creatively and unexpectedly above and beyond it all." Mmm...sorry Buz, but this is not a good disc.

James Blunt returns with new CD, Moon Landing

James Blunt
James Blunt will release his fourth studio album ‘Moon Landing’ on 21 October. The album is produced by Tom Rothrock (Beck, Moby, Foo Fighters), who worked with James on his multi-platinum selling debut ‘Back To Bedlam’ , with additional production from Martin Terefe (KT Tunstall, Martha Wainwright, Jason Mraz). Of the new album, James comments: “This is a much more personal album, and also quite back to basics. It’s about me and Tom, the producer, finding where the story all started and where we are now”. Full details on the album, which includes a track co-written with Ryan Tedder, will be released soon. Details of the first single from ‘Moon Landing’ will be announced shortly, but for now fans can get a taste of the album on this trailer, which features the album track ‘Blue on Blue’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnaumIHM65A&

CD REVIEW! J. Cole - Born Sinner

The second studio album by American hip hop recording artist J. Cole. is quite an interesting release.  It is the follow-up to his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, which was released in 2011. The album features guest appearances from Miguel, Amber Coffman, Kendrick Lamar, TLC, James Fauntleroy, 50 Cent, Bas and Jhené Aiko. Lyrically J. Cole is one of the best around right now and this is superbly displayed on Born Sinner. While Jay Z is releasing some bizarre lyrics to his next project Magna Carta Holy Grail and Kanye is moving away from the storytelling direction of rap, J. CD REVIEW! Ciara - Ciara

Ciara’s fifth self-titled album may have found this 27 year-old her shining moment. It is really good.  The last year found Ciara trying to recreate the magic of “Goodies” from years ago. She finally found that magic. On Ciara, CiCi is back with a sassy vengeance. Putting her last two commercially waned albums (Fantasy Ride, Basic Instincts) to the side, Ciara dusts herself off and comes out swinging. The intro track "I'm Out" features Nicki Minaj and it’s real ladies' anthem that could be a mega hit. The seductive lead single “Body part” is reminiscent of 90’s R&B with its sultry grooves. “Super Turnt Up” features Ciara’s first attempt at rapping on a record as well as self-producing the southern hip-hop influenced record. “Overdose” is a straightforward pop track and one of the most striking tracks on the record with the addition of a scraping EDM beat. “D.U.I.” is definitely one of those ballads you play when you’re thinking about being in love. This is a really great record filled with many ferocious pop moments that make it perhaps her best ever.

Lot of naked bodies in new Goldfrapp music video

Goldfrapp's new music video for their new song Drew has quite a lot of nakedness. Naked female bodies and naked male bodies. The band have unveiled 'Drew' as the next cut to be lifted from their forthcoming album Tales of Us. The accompanying music video sees Alison Goldfrapp strolling through an empty mansion and dancing with a naked female. Other scenes see naked people running through the house's grounds, while Alison controls a remote toy aeroplane with a nude male. The song itself is an atmospheric number with acoustic guitar and violins playing over Alison Goldfrapp's husky voice.

Kelly Osbourne engaged

Kelly Osbourne has become engaged to the boyfriend she met at Kate Moss's wedding and declared: "We just want to be together all the time." The Bellfast Time said she accepted a proposal from Matthew Mosshart - brother of musician Alison Mosshart - as they enjoyed a holiday in Anguilla. Kelly, who revealed the details of the engagement in an interview with Hello! magazine, also told how the ring is intended to look like one of her father Ozzy's items of jewellery. "I designed it to look like an earring that my father wore," said Kelly, who also posed with her fiance for the magazine at the spot where they became engaged. I used to hold my finger up to his ear when I was little and say: 'I want a ring like that'. Now I have one!"And Kelly added: "I've never felt this close to another human being, ever. People say we're co-dependent but we just want to be together all the time." He moved from New York to Los Angeles to allow them to be together more often. Kelly said: "Matthew made the biggest sacrifice anyone's ever made for me, to move away from everything that he knew to be with me in LA. "Long-distance relationships often don't work out. We'd dated for a year and knew we wanted to be together. Matthew has broken down every one of my walls. There's nothing I wouldn't do in front of him."

Fokofpolisiekar: Forgive Them For They Suck K*k

Fokofpolisiekar is famous for their explosive live performances and raw on-stage energy; the powerful conveyance of their intelligent, poetic and honest-to-the-bone lyrics. Their continued success and ever-growing popularity which transcends class, age and race, bears testimony to their artistic substance and social impact… and to being far more than just an outrageous name. In December 2012, in the run-up to Fokofpolisiekar’s 10-year anniversary, friends and fans attended the Barnyard Theatre in the Cresta Mall, Johannesburg, South Africa to bathe in the Spirit of Fokof. The recording of this performance was intended for live streaming on mktv.co.za.  Fokofpolisiekar and MK thought: “Let’s make it a DVD.” Forgive Them For They Suck K*k is a selection of the band’s most popular acoustic and rock musical offerings chronicling the past decade.Bassist Wynand Myburgh explains the obscure name for the DVD: "We do not take ourselves too seriously in Fokofpolisiekar. After being together for ten years we really enjoy each other’s company and performing together.  Unfortunately our individual schedules do not allow for rehearsals.  We always joke about how well the Fokofpolisiekar shows go although we are not the tightest live band around and we never rehearse. For us it is all about portraying and channeling the energy of our music while performing. We actually have a name for it: The Spirit Of Fokof.  It is a raw energy and connection that we have as great friends who have been playing together in band for a while. In 2009 a documentary about Fokofpolisiekar titled Forgive Them For They Do Not Know What They Do, was released by Fly On The Wall. I joked around that a follow-up DVD should be titled Forgive Them for They Suck K*k.  It stuck.  It is how the band’s name came about in 2003 - as a joke and it stuck. We do not proclaim that this is the best live show ever, but it does have the vibe. Forgive us and enjoy!!" The physical DVD will be on sale at the launch shows, thegreekmerchant.com and Kalahari.com from mid-August 2013. From September 2013 it will be available at your local music and DVD retailer.

10 Uit 10 vir Heinz Winckler

Die kookwater Afrikaanse-sanger Heinz Winckler is ‘n besige man.

Hoe balanseer jy jou werk met jou familie as jy so besig is? Baie versigtig! Hehe!

Jou vrou, Alette, blyk net so besig te wees. My vrou is baie talentvol en veelsydig.

Watter TV-programme geniet jy? Ek's mal oor goeie tv shows en flieks!
