Rapper Action Bronson gets his own TV show: Fuck, That’s Delicious

Action Bronson
Remember the dude/rapper Action Bronson (aka Bam Bam aka Bronsalino) who toured with Eminem on his Rapture Tour? The one who kept on smoking on stage during the Eminem tour of South Africa? Well, he is getting his own TV show, Fuck, That’s Delicious. MTV.com reports that in the first episode, which will air in May, cameras follow Bam Bam as he eats his way through New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa during Eminem’s Rapture Tour. Plus, he hits some of his favourite New York eateries like Roberta’s in Brooklyn and Eddie’s Sweet Shop in Action’s native Queens. “You always hear me rapping about things; this is a rare chance you get to actually see it,” Bronsalino says to the camera to open, before diving some 20 feet off of a boat and splashing into a body of water. From there, it’s all about food.

DJ E-Z Rock dead at age 46

It's sad day for the world of hip-hop music with the untimely death of legendary hip-hop DJ E-Z Rock at the age of 46. Coldplay's new album inspired by real life events for Chris Martin

"I think everyone in their life goes through challenges, whether it's love or money, kids, or illness... You have to really not run away from that stuff. Life throws these colourful challenges at you… what we decided to do on Ghost Stories was to really be honest about it and say, this is what's been happening." - Chris Martin (in Digital Spy)

Songs for rockers Coldplay's 6th album, Ghost Stories, were apparently inspired by the split between lead singer Chris Martin and his (ex) wife, Gwyneth Paltrow. The two called it quits in March after being married for 10 years. Digital Spy and The Guardian reports that Chris was asked by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe if the "breakdown" of his and Gwyneth 's marriage influenced his song writing for the new album. "I wouldn't use the word breakdown, this was more a realisation about trying to grow up basically. Like I said, if you can't open yourself up, you can't appreciate the wonder inside. So you can be with someone very wonderful, but because of your own issues you cannot let that be celebrated in the right way." Chris further explained: "What changed for me was - I don't want to go through life being scared of it, being scared of love, being scared of rejection, being scared of failure. Ever since our band came out, we have been a very polarising group because we do a certain thing very well. So what Ghost Stories means to me is like, you've got to open yourself up to love and if you really do, of course it will be painful at times, but then it will be great at some point. I think in life everyone needs to be broken in some way… I think everyone in their life goes through challenges, whether it's love or money, kids, or illness... You have to really not run away from that stuff. Life throws these colourful challenges at you… what we decided to do on Ghost Stories was to really be honest about it and say, this is what's been happening." The full interview is airing tonight on BBC Radio 1.

Jennifer Lopez reveals title of new single - First Love

First Love is the title of the new Jennifer Lopez single that is taken from as-yet-untitled new eigth studio CD. Billboard.com reports that Jennifer said that "If you listen to my albums, they were always about love. I've always sung about love. It was always love in a certain way: A fairytale type of way; I was hoping, praying, and wishing for that. After this experience, and these past couple of years, I realized love is completely different than I thought it was. I still believe in it more than ever. I'm still singing about it on every track, but I want it in the right way. I believe there's a certain way that it should be." According to JustJared, the uptempo track includes the lyrics "I wish you were my first love/ 'Cos if you were my first/Baby there wouldn't have been no second, third or fourth love".

One Direction accused of plagiarism for the video of 'You & I' - really?

One Direction
Did they or didn't they? That is the big question at the moment. Pop boy-band One Direction (also known as 1D) has been accused by Australian production company Oh Yeah Wow that the music video for the 1D song 'You & I' are very similar to a video that Oh Yeah Wow shot with the Ozzie & Cape Town five piece synthpop band, Clubfeet, for their song 'Everything You Wanted'. According to Entertainment Weekly, Australia’s Oh Yeah Wow claims the video is suspiciously similar to one the company created for Melbourne synthpop act Clubfeet. In the video, the five guys morph into each other as they walk along a deserted oceanfront pier. Toward the end of the video, the quintet, now together as a group and in separate bodies, pull off a stunt in which they meet up with their own bodies, which are posed along the pier in different stances. According to radio.com, the Clubfeet video takes a slightly different approach in terms of location, but the facet of meeting up with one’s body is widely explored throughout the video and is pulled off in a similar style, with the camera rolling along in front of them as the effect is displayed. In a statement, Oh Yeah Wow addressed the similarities. “It seems that the chaps of One Direction have taken it upon themselves to regurgitate our original concept, as seen in our award-winning clip for Clubfeet’s ‘Everything You Wanted,’” the statement reads. “Don’t get us wrong, we here at Oh Yeah Wow are big One Direction fans and are envious of their ability to maintain flawless hairdos. To be crystal clear, OYW has nothing against creative evolution. Artists constantly reinterpret other works that have inspired them and we’re fine with people taking a technique and using it to create something new…The wider problem is, that plagiarism and copycatting is becoming increasingly common and acceptable." See below the two versions and decide for yourself...

Katy Perry show off her "gold nuggets in her insane music video...ever

Katy as Goldie The Dancer, showing off her "gold nuggets"
Katy Perry's latest music video, Birthday, is a wild ride of insane characters, and I LOVE it! The singer is seen disguising herself as different birthday party entertainers in the eight-minute visual. She told Billdboard.com that the video "the most insane one I've ever done". In the video Katy portrays five different characters in the music video, including Goldie the Dancer, Kriss the Clown and Princess Mandee. The makeup used on Perry for Goldie The Dancer, who isn't shy about showing off "her golden nuggets," is actually pretty incredible. Digital Spy reports that towards the end of the video, the singer takes off her Princess Mandee disguise to reveal her true identity to a party of young children.

Jack Parow & Valiant Swart – Tema van jou Lied music video is here!

Jack Parow & Valiant Swart
Rapper Jack Parow and blues rocker Valiant Swart’s song, Tema van jou Lied (Theme of your Song), were one of ten videos chosen to be financed by kykNET Musiek’s MVP initiative. Tema van jou Lied was produced by Little Big Productions.  They were also the team behind Parow’s hit video for Afrikaans is Dood. The concept for this music video was to find unusual and inspiring people from around the Western Cape who are exhibiting hope in the face of adversity. Little Big Productions found a vast range of characters ranging from a female Elvis impersonator to a paraplegic skydiver. All of these scenarios were documented and cut together to create a very emotive documentary music video. What makes this video unique is that it showcases a variety of unorthodox South African stories which people haven't seen before. Jack Parow and Valiant Swart also feature in this piece.  Their performance was shot on a farm just outside Malmesbury. Tema van jou Lied is from Jack Parow’s new double album, Nag van die Lang Pette, which was released in February this year.  See the video below!

But no need to stretch your imagination, just watch their latest music video, Klein Wêreld (As SA jou Wêreld is). The music video was chosen for funding as part of kykNET Musiek’s MVP initiative and was produced by Chasing Migada Productions.  This single was a fine choice for the music video as it already scored number 1 positions on Tuks FM, MFM and Puk FM.  See the video below and also how the chaps were turned into old “omies”, HERE.

Thirty Seconds To Mars SA tour: Supporting act announced

With the excitement of the upcoming Thirty Seconds To Mars tour of South Africa in June, the supporting act for their tour has been announced. Beatenberg will be supporting Thirty Seconds to Mars when they tour South Africa for 2 concerts on Friday 13 June at the Grand Arena, Cape Town and Monday 16 June at the Coca-Cola Dome, Johannesburg. Beatenberg are South Africa’s new face of pop, comprising Matthew Field (Vocals/Guitar), Ross Dorkin (Bass) and Robin Brink (Drums). Jeremy Loops opens up about his debut CD, Trading Change that shot to #1 on iTunes SA and what his favourite track on the CD is

Jeremy Loops and some of his band mates

Congrats with the CD going to #1 on iTunes SA! That is awesome. What’s your thoughts on this? I’m partly relieved, but also really overwhelmed. I think, with people waiting this long for the album, there was a certain level of expectation, and getting number one is a sign that we’ve come close to meeting that. Still, no. 1 is cool.

When did you find out about this and what was your first thought? My dad emailed me at 2am on launch day. I found out at 06h30. I literally burst out laughing from relief.

Your favourite track on the CD is….I love them all, but Trip Fox is very special to me at present as, more than anything else, it really captures the core intent of the album, and where in my life I’m at currently. It was also the last song I wrote for the album, and I really needed to deliver on it.

How long did it take to record the CD? Two years, roughly. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to translate the way I do the songs live, into workable album songs. I had no prior experience of being in studio, so over the two years I spent lots of time going in and out of different studio’s, recording songs here and there, and just generally trying to get better at working in studio under time constraints.

What obstacles did you face recording the CD? Time, money, and experience. We knew we wanted to make an album that could stand on a shelf next to anything else and be considered comparable, both in terms of quality and content. I think meeting Bryan Wilson in London to help us produce it changed everything.

You guys are touring soon the UK, Canada and the US. What can people expect at the shows? Tons of energy, and lots of new music. Our set is going through quite an overhaul, and we’re excited to show the world what we’ve been working on.

What advice could you give to aspiring musos? Play and practice your songs. Nothing matters more than the songs.

REVIEW! Glee star Lea Michele disappoints on her debut CD, Louder

Week after week Glee star Lea Michele (who plays Rachel Berry) had me glued to the screen with her impeccable voice, her raw emotions and the quality of her vocal talents. Then she made the jump from TV star to singing star with her debut CD, Louder. Unfortunately, and this is a big unfortunate, I don't get the chills or the variety of her vocal talent that I hoped for. Instead, the CD is a bit one sided all focussed on the troubles of relationships - and she does it repeatedly on Louder. The CD is a bit of a mixed bag with nothing that grips me. Yes, it's a solid effort but does not have that wow factor that I expected. Sorry Lea, maybe next time you'll have me eating out of the palm of your hands with your next effort.

HOT! Rockers CrashCarBurn featuring rapper Kwesta release the music video for ‘Keep Walking’ - and this is a super hot song!

Joburg rockers CrashCarBurn and award winning rapper Kwesta have released the music video to their current single ‘Keep Walking’, which is making huge ripples across South African airwaves. CrashCarBurn’s drummer, Brendan Barnes, directed and produced the music video combining his cinematographic and musical skills and creativity to put together this small masterpiece. The video was cut and coloured at Mushroom Media in Johannesburg. Brendan shared some insights into the production.

Tell us a little more about the storyboard? ‘Keep Walking’ is a song about rising above your circumstance to make a better life for yourself. When conceptualising an idea for the video, I came across a boxer from the Eastern Cape who is now living and training at the Hillbrow Boxing Club. He has literally come from nothing and is using sport as his way to make a success of his life.

How do the visuals and the song's lyrics tie in? We shot at two locations for the video. The first location is the Hillbrow Boxing Club. It is incredibly run down with very few resources but the boxers who train there make the most of what they have. The second location was a massive warehouse in the Johannesburg city centre. We built a beautiful boxing ring for the performance sections of the video.

Was there any specific camera that the video was shot on? We shot on the Red Epic so that we could make use of some beautiful slow motion sequences.

CrashCarBurn is known for hits such as ‘Serenade’, ‘Twisted’ and ‘The Light” and has performed at the likes of My Coke Fest and Oppikoppi. Kwesta is currently up for Best Rap Album at the 2014 SAMA awards and recently scooped ‘Best Hip Hop’ album at the 2014 Metro Awards.
