6-year-old death metal girl on America's Got Talent

Aaralyn and brother Izzy
Don’t be fooled by little 6-year-old Aaralyn. She looks like a princess, but sings like a heavy metal warrior! Brother and sister duo Aaralyn & Izzy sing their original song, "Zombie Skin"on America's Got Talent. Little Aaralyn has an amazing talent: the talent to scare the sh*t out of you. Aralyan and her brother went on the reality TV show and performed the death metal song Zombie Skin. Not only did it scare us, but it scared the living daylights out of the celebrity judges. Scary Spice commented, "I'm officially scared!" We loved the part of the song when she said “I’m going to eat you up right now.” So amazing. She was given the green light to proceed to the next round of auditions in Las Vegas. We can’t wait to hear her next song, Lullaby Crash. Watch the INSANE video, HERE!

True Blood's bloody good biting soundtrack

True Blood fans, it's time to suck the living daylight out of this hot CD release. History suggests that vampires and pop go together like fanged teeth and pasty faces. Before Bauhaus was moaning about “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” in the 80s, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins eerily rose of a coffin on stage in the mid-50s to put a spell on you. More recently the Twilight series and its accompanying albums put a fresh splatter on the genre, adding substantial bucks into their blood bank along the way. Since this is volume four from the ongoing HBO series—released not coincidentally before season five’s premiere– it’s clear there is more money to be sucked out of the concept. Thankfully, this set is as artfully and intelligently constructed as the previous three even if it follows the same basic blueprint. This instalment includes songs from the show's 5th and 6th seasons and features songs from Eric Burdon & Jenny Lewis, Iggy Pop & Bethany Cosentino, The Heavy, Howlin' Wolf, The Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket, Los Lobos, The Flaming Lips and many others.

ABBA's Agnetha Fältskog releases new CD

“Never thought that I’d ever sing again. But hearing the first three songs, I just couldn’t say no!” With these words, one of popular music’s most recognisable and celebrated names of the past 40 years – Agnetha Fältskog – signals her return to the spotlight. The siren songstress from ABBA is back with a new album “A”, preceded by a curtain-raising track, “When You Really Loved Someone." Agnetha has been working with renowned, Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer Jorgen Elofsson – who has been responsible for hits by Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion and Westlife, among others – and acclaimed producer/arranger Peter Nordahl on her brand new album. “She wanted to make music again,” says Elofsson, “We could feel that. She had been thinking about it. Basically, she’s a musician, a songwriter/singer who hasn’t done that for a while. We saw her open up, become much happier, with music again in her life.” “A” features one of Agnetha first co-writes in many years: “I hadn’t written any music for a long, long time,” she says. “But I sat at the piano, and suddenly it was there.” The most anticipated new album of 2013, “A” was recorded and produced by Jörgen Elofsson and Peter Nordahl: “We wanted to make this as if Agnetha hadn’t entered ABBA,” says Elofsson. “We were interested in what she sounded like if she hadn’t been in the group. And yet it’s important that she comes across as we remember her to be.”

The Arrows launch “Disaster Queen” Video

The Arrows
Two years, two weddings and two international tours after the release of their phenomenally successful first single, “Lovesick” off their debut release “Make Believe”, South Africa’s favourite pop duo, The Arrows, are back with their sophomore studio album - “Disaster Queen”. To build up momentum to the release of this album in September later this year, the duo spent 2 gruelling days filming the music video for the title track “Disaster Queen”. “Disaster Queen is about never giving up and pushing forward, no matter what, to keep going with what is right” says Pam de Menezes, lead singer of the duo. To convey this message of perseverance and triumph, the band, cast and crew spent over a month piecing together all of the intricacies that bring to life the visual sensation of the futuristic fight scenes that play out in the video. The Arrows were in intensive MMA training with a professional fighter for over a month for the video – learning how to punch, land and kick. “We wanted our opponents in the video to look scary and other worldly,” says Pam, getting hands-on with all aspects of the video. They were involved in handpicking the material for the exquisite futuristic costumes of the fighters and spectators in the video, “we wanted the spectators to look like snooty hipsters of the future, with outrageous outfits. Everything was done very specifically and on purpose.” The cast and crew shot the video over 2 days, pulling 20 hour shifts each day to get the video looking as spectacular as it does. “It was a very ambitious concept that we committed to, but it was a lot of fun and we’re so happy with the way that it turned out!” finishes Pam. You can also watch the BEHIND THE SCENES video of Disaster Queen.

Backstreet Boys back with new CD and song

Backstreet Boys
In a time where boy bands are actually a thing of the 90s, there seems to be one boy, or now men, band that has withstood the test of time - The Backstreet Boys. With a new album due next month, the Backstreet Boys amped up the anticipation by premiering the title track and first single, "In a World Like This." The song is uptempo in the same way as the 1997 single "As Long As You Love Me," and is about discovering love when it's needed most. "In a world like this / Where some back down / I know we're gonna make it," the reunited fivesome croon in the song's chorus. "In a time like this when love's 'round/ I know we got to take it." The Backstreet Boys are celebrating 20 years in the music industry with the release of In a World Like This on 30 July and will begin touring with DJ Pauly D and Jesse McCartney on 2 August. Of course, these guys aren't the same youngsters we fell in love with 20 years ago. Said 41-year-old Kevin Richardson, "We've grown up, our fans have grown up. Now four of us have kids, four of us are married, Nick’s engaged, we have a lot more to talk about now." But don't think that we're not going to see those old fun BSB dance moves we watched at their concerts, screaming while tears streamed down our faces. Oh, wait. Was that just me? AJ said, "We're bringing back old choreography, stuff that people haven't seen in probably 15 years, from the hat routine to the original 'As Long As You Love Me' mic routine."

The British indie folk group announced Ted had been rushed into a clinic on Monday to treat a blood clot on his brain. On Tuesday the rock band, fronted by Marcus Mumford, confirmed they would be postponing headline concerts in the US as a result of the news.Despite Ted's release, the group have now announced on their Facebook page that they will cancel all remaining US tour dates. Bongeziwe Mabandla
In the last three weeks Bongeziwe Mabandla’s world has elevated to embrace a new wave of recognition and critical acclaim.   From being selected as one of Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans, and having his music chosen for Paris Fashion Week, to releasing a new remix on iTunes – not to mention the fulfilment that is generated from performing his music to local and international audiences. Bongeziwe Mabandla recently performed at the Azgo Festival in Mozambique, as well as the Sakifo Festival in Reunion Island (Friday 7 June 2013) billed alongside an eclectic mix of artists including Salif Keita and Winston McAnuff among others.   Next, Bongeziwe Mabandla will be gearing up for a couple of local public performances (Oppikoppi, and The Bassline) before his debut performance at Festival d’lle de France in Paris (September 2013). Festival Director Olivier Delsalle handpicked Bongeziwe Mabandla during an earlier trip to the country – and at a second meeting last week was accompanied by several French entertainment journalists who took the time to absorb the music, and engage with the artist.  During his visit Olivier Delsalle said ‘… we are looking forward to welcoming Bongeziwe within the frame of the Festival – I am confident that this poignant, ethereal, yet powerful voice, together with his vibrant stage presence, will take the audience along the most emotive journey.” South African audiences will recall Bongeziwe’s moving performance of ‘Ngawe Mama’ at the live televised broadcast of the South African Music Awards last month. Robert Pattinson pens break-up music

Robert Pattinson strumming away his blues
Twilight hottie Robert Pattinson is reportedly strumming his pain away, reports muside-news.com. The 27-year-old British actor has suffered a lot of romantic drama recently. After breaking up with his long-term girlfriend Kristen Stewart he was rumoured to have sparked up a romance with singer Katy Perry. Apparently Katy wants to reignite a relationship with her ex-boyfriend John Mayer, leaving Robert out in the cold. Robert is looking to his guitar to cope with heartache. "Rob's always had half a mind on his music, but when his film career and relationship with Kristen both took off at the same time, something else had to give, a source told British newspaper The Sun. "He's really enjoyed picking up his guitar again properly and it has given him something to focus on during the break-up." Although he loves music Robert isn't looking to establish a career. He's only playing guitar for fun. "Everyone's saying that he's really talented, but he's adamant we'll only be seeing him in films for the time being," the insider said. Robert and former Twilight co-star Kristen split up following the brunette's affair with married director Rupert Sanders. It is rumoured Katy served as a shoulder to cry on shortly after Robert's relationship with Kristen crumbled. Now that Katy has her sights on ex-beau John, Robert is out to sea emotionally. "Rob feels jilted yet again. Since leaving Kristen he's felt so lost and having Katy to lean on was a huge comfort," a source explained to British magazine Star. "But now she and John are considering reuniting, he feels he can't turn to her anymore. There are few people he can confide in and trust right now, so this has left him pretty deflated."

ONE campaign launches “agit8” feat. SA talent

The ONE Campaign today joined forces with dozens of musicians from across the globe to launch agit8, an urgent call for action against extreme poverty in the crucial week leading up to the 2013 G8 summit in Northern Ireland. An extraordinary line up of artists have added their voices to the campaign by recording brand new versions of great protest songs, because protest leads to progress and bold commitments from world leaders could be life changing. U2 front man and ONE co-founder, Bono said: "This week we are reminded of the words of the great agitator Nelson Mandela who said 'Like slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome. Millions of people… are trapped in the prison of poverty. It is time to set them free. Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation.'" Since the 1970s Nelson Mandela has called upon artists and bands to use their platform to fight injustice. We were honoured then, we're honoured now. Ms Kidjo and U2 are joining other artists, including Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Vusi Mahlasela, Ed Sheeran, Will.i.am, Mumford and Sons, Elvis Costello, Sting, Green Day, Kid Rock, Rokia Traoré and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to urge and inspire a new generation to take action in the fight against the injustices of extreme poverty and hunger. Bob Marley gets remixed – not a good call at all

The Bob Marley & the Wailers album Legend Remixed will be out on 25 June. All 16 tracks from the original album have been reimagined by a long list of DJs and producers including Thievery Corporation, Roni Size and Nickodemus along with My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Marley's sons Ziggy and Stephen. Now, it's always a scary business remixing songs that are perfect in its original format and yes, I was very hesitant when I heard of this project, because if it goes wrong, it goes wrong BADLY! Honestly, my first thought was "leave the legend alone - his music is perfect as is." The Beat got a chance to listen to most of the CD, and it's honestly, it is just not the same. Sorry. I've said it. It sucks. I'm not sure how Bob would react hearing some of his tunes being 'updated' drum & bass and EDM style. At least the essence of Bob's tunes are all still there, although they are buried under layers of scratches and tweaks. I don't think I'll be buying this CD, and would rather stick to the original versions. Many thanks, but no thanks. If curious, go listen to samples of the songs on the CD, HERE.

Thicke married Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol actress Paula Patton in 2005, having dated her since he was 16. Talking about 'Blurred Lines', Thicke explained: "It is mostly throwaway fun, but naturally Pharrell and I - being in love with our wives, having kids and loving our mothers - we have a lot of respect for women. "So the way we were seeing it is, 'I know man tries to domesticate you but you're an animal, you are just like any man'".  Watch the steamy video for Blurred Lines, HERE!

DJ Naaldekoker’s first two singles The Meltdown featuring Goodluck and Ek Smaak Jou featuring JR were instant radio hits and garnered him a loyal and growing fan base. Now he will prove that he is no fly-by-night DJ with the release of his breath-taking new single, Lost in Here featuring ISO’s Richard Brokensha. “I’m a massive fan of Richard, and of his work in both ISO and kidofdoom. He has a very distinctive voice and that’s definitely something I look out for when selecting artists to collaborate with. Along with his great voice, Richard is a pro. He brought an amount of perfectionism to the process, making sure his takes were absolutely perfect before giving them the go ahead. We wanted to create something light, but with an edge, and after many hours of working on shaping and fine-tuning the track, I’ve ended up with something that I am proud to present: My third single, DJ Naaldekoker feat Richard Brokensha, titled Lost in Here,” says DJ Naaldekoker. In other great news, DJ Naaldekoker is the latest find for top Australian electro label, Central Station Records. He has recently been signed to the label and will be releasing his tracks internationally in the near future. This is a great opportunity for Cape Town’s DJ Naaldekoker to represent South Africa in one of the biggest Electronic Dance Music scenes in the world. Australia is considered the mecca of electronic dance music worldwide, known for hosting some of the world’s biggest electronic music festivals such as Big Day Out, Parklife and Creamfields. The world’s best producers and DJ’s can be seen at these festivals, which often have more than 50 000 people in attendance.
