South Africa’s newest international festival is here - Euphoria Music Festival launches in November 2015

Euphoria Music Festival is a 5-year young, US based electronic and dance music festival, held annually in Austin, Texas (www.euphoriafest.com), and in 2015 will expand to include 2 dates in South Africa. A sound and light spectacular combing cutting-edge visual elements and stage design, Euphoria Music Festival aims to create a unique combination of togetherness with nature, new friends and the best in electronic, deep house and indie South African music. Launching the South African shows, Huddle Park - Johannesburg on 1 November will host Euphonik, Kyle Watson, Chunda Munki, Felix Laband and  Matthew Mole. Felix Laband is an icon in the electronic music scene.  He creates light, emotional, minimalist soundscapes by combing several styles and samples from classical, jazz and old television recordings overlaid with instrumental performances by himself and other guest artists. Kyle Watson’s sets are smooth and balanced, and have evolved into a style of forward thinking house music that borrows from bass, techno, deep house, garage, jacking and tech house. His appreciation for every genre of music has given Kyle his unique and eclectic sound and it is because of this, he has secured himself a spot as one of South Africa’s most successful internationally acclaimed dance music producers. 3 weeks later, Pretoria will be set for a line up that includes DJ Fresh, Kyle Cassim, Euphonik, Pop Art, Vimo, Kyle Watson, Chunda Munki, Matthew Mole and Desmond & The Tutus.
DJ Fresh is one of the most iconic names in South African house music. Over 24 albums, successful radio career on 5fm, performances with Frankie Knickles, Armand van Helden, Paul van Dyke, Fat Boy Slim, Viny Da Vinci to name a few, the Big Dawg is a highlight of the day. Kyle Cassim, a name that is no stranger to nightclubs all over South Africa. After doing his five gig tour to the Netherlands last year, performing alongside legendary artists such as Franky Rizardo, Skitzofrenix and Jeff Doubleu, Kyle Cassim has been commanding dance floors all over South Africa, leaving every club and festival begging for more. Adding a unique twist to this year’s festival, the inclusion of pop and indie will ensure that fans of music are treated to an eclectic mix.  Headlining this, Johannesburg based, Desmond & The Tutus. Desmond & The Tutus have been scare-crowing across the world’s stages with their unique, some might call it niche, brand of kwela-indie-punk for just on ten years. But to call it niche would be entirely missing the point, the Tutus are more shape-shifters than niche, their sound slotting comfortably between Thandiswe Mazwai and Hugh Masekela, as it did at the Soweto Heritage Fest in 2013, or between surf rocker’s Beach Party and synth mavens Gateway Drugs. Their music is cheeky and infectious and jangly (but not too jangly) or it’s because they spin around the stage as if their limbs are coming off, yowling like Big Foot in the Canadian wilderness, or because they like to dress up at Halloween and are pretty serious about their costumes. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, yes they did that. Four Ali G’s. Check. The Parlotones. Check.

Iron Maiden Back With A Bang!

Iron Maiden's eagerly awaited new studio album The Book Of Souls was released earlier this month just days before the band announced their upcoming South African tour. "We’re really excited about The Book Of Souls and had a fantastic time creating it," Bruce said. The Book of Souls is available on iTunes here.

Jess Glynne Drops Debut Album

Heartbreak? We've all been there. So has Jess Glynne - and it's what has inspired much of her new album, I Cry When I Laugh. Jess describes the day that she signed her record contract as ‘the happiest and saddest day of my life.’ This was her biggest professional accomplishment to date but Jess was in pieces after coming out of a two-year relationship. On this album, Jess explores both her heartache and her triumph and has been described as an "emotional rollercoaster." ‘I needed to believe in it,’ she says. ‘I needed the record to tell a story. I needed it to feel like me.’ By looking inwards she hopes to reach out. ‘This album is about a girl who was a happy-go-lucky person, a bit of trouble, got her heart-broken and found her way through that not by being sad but by seeing hope and not letting it overtake her.’ I Cry When I Laugh is available on iTunes.

Johannesburg-based groove rock machine Deity’s Muse has released its latest single and video for “Satellites”, which is off the Indiegogo funded album, Convergence. Recorded at Loudmouth and Convergence Studios and produced, mixed and mastered by Dead Letter Circus’ Clint Vincent, “Satellites” explores different sonic territories that will write a new chapter in the band’s 14 year history. “‘Satellites’ is a game changer for us as a band. We had to rediscover ourselves as musicians with this song, tap into an energy we didn't know we had and come up with something that we are super proud to share with you,” says drummer, Sashan Pillay. “This song resonates with who we are right now. It shows our positivity and willingness to progress musically and as individuals. We've taken all that we have learnt over the years as a band and crammed that into this song. It's the truest reflection of us and we're damn proud of it.”

VAN COKE KARTEL Releases their cover EP - ENERGIE

VAN COKE KARTEL’s cover EP, ENERGIE, is out NOW on iTunes exclusively.  Pre-orders of the 12” vinyl is also open at www.permanentrecord.co.za as of now.  A free digital download of the entire EP is available upon purchase of the vinyl. The members of VAN COKE KARTEL spent most of 2015 on other projects. Francois and Jedd Kossew launched the FRANCOIS VAN COKE debut solo album.  Wynand Myburgh kept busy managing Jack Parow and Fokofpolisiekar’s affairs, while Dylan Hunt joined the band Southern Wild. The band wanted to do something together again and they wanted to do something different. They decided to record a cover EP by some of the greats, those who have influenced them along the way.  According to Jedd Kossew, it was important for them to stay true to themselves, their style of music, but also to stay true to the songs they decided to cover.Van Coke Kartel was eager to put their own spin on this pop song and they think it is now “Spaghetti Western-sounding”. But… “How do you choose 5 songs?” “It’s much easier for us to release good songs when they are already good songs” says Francois van Coke.

“Re-introducing an old song to a new audience.” Dylan Hunt
Covering this song is quite personal for Van Coke Kartel. Francois says that Johannes Kerkorrel and Koos Kombuis was the only Afrikaans music they listened to growing up and the only thing they felt they associated with. Wynand used to do sound for Kerkorrel at some of this shows back in the day.

“The Beatles are my favourite band of all time.” Jedd Kossew
Francois and Jedd have been jamming this song in their solo acoustic set for some time now.  Help! is the first single from ENERGIE.  A fun fact is that Jedd sings a chorus for the first time in a Van Coke Kartel song.

I got you (I feel good)
“Who doesn’t want to sing ‘I feel good’?”  Francois Van Coke
Wynand says that they wanted to do a song which is fun, they can jam and people would know.

Got to give it up
“It’s something I want to share with people.  It’s one of my favourite songs.” Francois Van Coke
Francois also says that he loves everything about this song.  “Every note that’s played on it.  I love the original version.”

Chris De Burgh - The Hands Of Man Tour South Africa

Few artists can lay claim to international success spanning three decades, but Chris De Burgh has achieved precisely that. The legendary artist will be performing eight shows in South Africa in support of his new album, “The Hands of Man”. ‘Spanish Train and Other Stories’ was Chris’ first major hit in SA and the first single ‘Just Another Poor Boy’ from this album was No.1 for many weeks.  By the time he released ‘Man On The Line’ in 1981, Chris was a well-established global star and the single from this album ‘High On Emotion’ became a No.1 record right across the globe. 1986 saw the release of  ‘Into The Light,’ Chris’ most successful record up to that point, which sold in excess of 10million copies worldwide. It also featured the single ‘Lady In Red’, which was no.1 in 50 countries and is still one of the most played songs on the planet. By 1990 Chris’ popularity was such that he was the only international artist to personally receive an invitation from then-Chancellor Kohl to perform at the historic public celebrations marking the reunification of East and West Germany. Chris continually seeks new challenges for himself as a musician and in with his 1995 album, ‘Beautiful Dreams,’ he realised a lifelong ambition to have his music recorded in a classical style with a full thirty-two piece orchestra. While much has changed since his debut LP, certain things have retained their integrity, after album sales in excess of 50 million Chris de Burgh releases ‘The Hands of Man,’ his 20th studio album of original material. Recorded both at his home studio in Ireland and at Mark Knopfler’s British Grove facility in London, ‘The Hands of Man’ has once again been produced by Chris Porter and features contributions from the members of Chris’ touring band. As he always does, Chris has approached many of the new songs from the perspective of not only how they could be performed on stage but how the audience might react to them in the live arena.  Always a prolific and in-demand touring artist, Chris will have ample opportunity to judge his instincts against the reaction of audiences in South Africa when he tours the country in support of ‘The Hands Of Man’ during 2016. Tickets go on sale as of today from bigconcerts.co.za and Computicket.

Adele's new CD out in November, but no tour planned (as yet)

Adele fans, rejoice! The British singer is releasing her long awaited third album in November. That is the good news. The bad news is that she is not planning to tour with the CD. It is reported she said 'no' to an 80 million British pound offer to tour. It seems that Adele would rather stay at home with her partner Simon Konecki and their two-year-old son Angelo. However, promoters are hard at work to convince the super star to either do a stadium tour, or smaller venues. Of course Adele's other concern is her vocal chords. She underwent a  a career-saving throat operation in 2011 following a vocal cord haemorrhage. It seems she might be worried that if she put strain on those brilliant vocal chords of her, she might have a relapse.
